Any chance we could cut him some slack?

If you're Swiss, I'm sure you can cope with one foreigner hating you just this week?

If you're not Swiss, surely you've been there yourself at some time or other?

Must we always take everything personally?
Nice how you are trying calm the waves, but must we unload all our crap in a forum, can't he not let it out against his wife?

Re: Damn I hate this country

Well-it must be beneficial for you somehow otherwise you would not still be here! And it is never impossible to leave this country-make a plan!I am tired of all the complaining-there are worse places out there at the moment-so you hear them complaining??????? Respect works both ways in all countries!!

Why, he is an adult male not a child. If he wants to complain on an open forum then he gets whatever in terms of response. There are several approaches to getting him out of hate-mode, you chose the "oh poor you" whereas I say "grow up, you came here by choice, you stay by choice".

Not to mention that he has at least followed Forum etiquette and correctly vented his frustrations in the "Complaints corner".
Lol! True, but I'm not St Paddying anyone because they can create a thread correctly.

The class system Europe wide is still very prevalent, it's at all levels, and I figure people are staring to see which of either of you is higher in the pecking order, a visual comparison as such. Or could it be 'hmmm where did she get those shoes from, I want a pair!'

Re: Damn I hate this country

The comforts of civilization has taken its toll on another poor victim. I presumed that this thread was started by a father trying to protect his family and house in central Benghazi this morning as government forces were shelling the neighborhood and the distant thunder of tanks drowned out the tears of crying children on a broken tiled floor littered with empty cartridge cases.

Clearly I must be on the wrong thread.

Well actually I was venting to a friend who has lived here for many years and asked him why men stare at me so much here.. An example was last week when i waited for some friend alone in a restaurant for about half an hour.. At least 2 men stopped by my table and just stood and gawked at me.. I w s so angry and even got a bit 'ghetto' with the one bloke.. I was thinking that they were doing that becasue they thinking im a prostitute or something.. Being that I look somewhat 'exotic'

My friend told me that they are not thinking that at all, that they probably just think you are pretty and that Swiss men have no idea how to approach women at all..

So now instead of getting angry and offended and hating Switzerland, im just going to tell myself that they are staring because they think i'm hot!

Following all the "my God this place is awful" comments I did an experiment a while ago. I decided I was going to be British only for a few days. So I didn't speak any German to any of the strangers I encountered in my daily life. I was still my friendly, helpful self, just in English.

Guess what, people were STILL nice to me, still smiled when I smiled first, still helped me when I asked them something. So I REALLY don't get where all this nastiness is happening because it's not where I am. Sure, some shop ladies are quite rude but they are rude because they know they can't sell me anything, it's all too small. Of course that's annoying but it's not a REAL problem. And compared to French shop ladies, ours are truly charming.

As for economisto's comment, well, I'd expect more than colonialist, racist attitude from a mod and question the decision to make someone who so overtly hates this country and it's inhabitant a mod on this forum.
Aha! Here is the fatal flaw. If you were smiling and being pleasant then you couldn't possibly have been British. Duh!

As for you being accused of not getting the "Great British sense of Irony", I found it quite ironic that all the Brits were very miffed that some fast-food CEO dude who studied in England years ago, mentioned recently that he found the English girls unnattractive and the food crap. I noticed how valiantly all our British forum buddies took that one on the chin.

Re: Damn I hate this country

Thanks for all the helpful replies everyone, didnt know there was so many that go through this.....

I really do believe it is the physical place I am living. I always lived in a big house and these apartment walls are just closing in on me. Also just went to Belgium this weekend and it was exceptionally good to be back (but i wouldnt move back there) . Its the stack of unpaid (and unfair once again) bills at the moment, the job which has become very tiring and a boss thats nearly impossible to deal with....and tells me I shouldnt be so nice to people(bar industry of everything)

gf cant leave because she is doing a degree and transferring is not possible due to scholarships.

And I have the prospect of staying here another 5-7 years as im in the process of buying a bar /restaurant cause I have found the perfect spot right next to Uni.

After that Ill be packing up and move to california I think. (gf is from there (she is Swiss-American)) and give it a shot there. I lived in the USA before and up until now it was the only place I liked living.....

oh well I guess Ill just have to buckle up and go for the ride......Thanks again everyone, glad to know Im not alone.

PS funny how all the foreigners are lending a helping hand, yet the Swiss once are shooting it down once again, and it is exactly that which I dislike about the Swiss people (granted Im talking down on your country but like said before, this site is not designed for you but for the foreigners....)

The beer is a miserable continent-variety, the weather is awful, not enough british gals serving behind the bar.... plus, there are Swissies everywhere

Better bring along a few ales to get started otherwise you'll stay sober another half hour before you finally manage to get through ordering.

Here's a double dose of irony for you. I guess you missed this post on that thread:

Actual, as the old saying goes: there's no such thing as bad press.

But really, who cares, apart from the *ahem* discerning Guardian reader...

The comment could equally be applied to US women, showing that the generalisation doesn't hold much credence.
...which ironically was thanked by Economisto.

Please don't say things like that, you will upset people for no reason.

It is an English forum, everyone is welcome, also Swiss people who speak english, afteral they can help us best as they know first hand.

Many issues were solved with help of our Swiss members, so telling them this site is not for them doesn't feel right..

Re: Damn I hate this country

well its 2.5 years for me now. but that 2 1/2 year itch has already come upon me a lot earlier. It's still there and probably wont go away. Some people (like myself) are just too laid back and open minded to live in a country like Switzerland. Last week I had the privilege of viewing a sitting of the Zurich parliament. As long as there are so many right wingers sitting on their parliamentary throne this country will continue to remain incompatible with me.

Dougals Brekky, does that mean you've come to be more closed-minded after 6 years?? If not how does this country not grind on your less conservative side? If I had backpains now, and was still there in 6 years, I'd find it just as irritating....
