not what I said, but this site was not designed for the Swiss bashing on the foreigners cause they have noting good to say about their native country. you are a native here and do not have the same vision or experiences someone whos not from here does.

If you are so frustrated about this country and you hate it so much, why don't you leave??? it's pointless for you to ruin your life staying in a place you despise and it's definitely not valuable for the country to have people like you.
If you are working here and that's why you are staying in this miseable country, then you should be greatful that this horrendous place is giving you a chance to survive.

What works best with the Swiss in my opinion is if YOU always make the first move. For example, when you move into a new place, no one is going to drop by and say welcome to the neighbourhood, cake in hand.
You are expected to introduce yourself. Even better, invite them over for an official introduction "apero". And when you walk down the street say hello "gruzi" to everyone and make eye contact (very important here- especially when saying cheers...)
Don't forget to bring the cake or croissants to the office on your birthday.
Over the years I have learned to do these things and have found out that the Swiss can be very friendly and helpful.

I must add though that I am happy not to have to head into town everyday and deal with the butting in line, bumping into etc. that used to make me crazy a few years ago.

It also took me about 4 years to adjust, feel relatively happy here and not desperately look around for a way to escape.

read the other post, it is explained there. I can just find a job anywhere, it is not about that. and pick up and move oversees just doesnt happen like that. There is lots of money involved so for those saying just move, well ....have you never moved before?

I worked and lived in several countries and I am doing just fine here. I just simply dont like it here and wtf does that have to do with being helpless ugh

Yes, I've moved before..I've moved overseas for the first time, to Switzerland one year ago, all by myself, with no much money and with all the cultural, technologic, linguistic and economical differences that means. And after working hard I got a great job and I couldn't be happier and more thankful with this country.

I think that if I've made it all by myself, you can certainly do it as well.

Ok, I live here for six years and I have plenty of "I hate it here" days. But as soon as I really consider moving, I see the downsides of the other places as well and suddenly Switzerland is not that bad anymore. Except of the locals.

But then: There are expats who do far worse. Do you remember Max Göldi? The Swiss ABB manager that was hold hostage by Ghaddafi for a year and only released in 2010? He took six months of vacation and recovered from his misrable time in Lybia. In January, he took a new position for ABB: In Tokio. He is currently getting suplied with iodid pills if there is a meltdown and the Swiss embassy is preparing to evacuate him together with all other Swiss in Japan:

Seriously - as a Swiss, reading this thread is like a slap in the face. I was expecting to see a lot of bashing the OP after his initial comment, instead most of the posters seem to be chiming right in.

Perhaps our immigration laws aren't tough enough, after all.

so why don't you start saving? And I'm sure wherever you're from will take you back with open arms and a social system as good as Switzerland's that'll keep you afloat while you get accommodated.

EXACTLY why i very much dislike the swiss, point proven. and believe me immigration laws are tough enough. Id like to save up but it is damn near impossible with the system here.

We're foreigners here, most of us. If you've ever been a foreigner somewhere yourself then you know what it's like. If not, please try to imagine. It can be a rewarding experience but also very frustrating. You do need to vent occasionally, or go mad.

...and I'm sure you don't want a bunch of mad ungrateful foreigners running around your country ;) so please bear with us when we need to let off some steam.
