Re: I Hate This, I Hate That...

I know it can be hard to hear someone complain, but the earlier post lifted my spirits a bit. It seemed like there was a bit of reality and compassion in most of the responses that followed. It's hard to feel like you're the only one who isn't happy-happy, smiley-smiley all the time. There are up-days and down-days and adjustment cycles living in a foreign country.

A reminder of that is maybe just what the other person needed. I needed to hear that a lot of other EF'ers have had ups and downs too. I was really surprised to see some acknowledge it. Sometime the posts just depress me more -- to just get over it. Everything is perfect.

Haven't you ever just gotten soooo frustrated? My habit seems to be to do that and then just after, the nicest, sweetest Swiss lady in the WORLD comes to help me with my kids.

It's funny, I thought of this post as I was putting my son down to sleep. A shout-out to Alexander if any of you know him . . .

"It has been a horrible, no-good, very bad day."
"My mom says some days are like that."

"Even in Australia."

Actually today is the first rainy day in weeks...
Why would you respond to my optimistic remark with negativity and eye rolling?

April showers bring May flowers. Rain is an integral part of Spring. As an Oregonian who's been missing the rain, I'm loving this weather!!!

If someone really hates it here and isn't making an active effort to leave then I have no sympathy for them.

Re: I Hate This, I Hate That...

Btw. I wrote a post on the other thread.

Quote:
I've always been tolerant of people criticising the Swiss, and respected the fact that they need a place to let off steam, have fun, etc.

But now, EF?

Well, it looks like this site now has anti-swiss moderators, who support the idea that the Swiss should be gone from this country, that it's people eat crap food, and that it's culture is worthless, etc.

It looks to me that it's becoming an actual hate site. Because that's what people tell about other people on hate sites and it's moderators (and therefore the people resonsible) support it.

I'll be writing an official complaint about this "hate site" (englishforum.ch) to the authorities. I expect the other Swiss on this forum to contact me via PM.

Continue.
Honestly, I'm deeply concerned about what's tolerated on this Forum. Borderline hate speech Swiss bashing (if not), fine. But anti-swiss moderators who openly take sides makes it a hate site.

Think about it. I'm still waiting for some people to contact me. We could eventually take some legal action or go to the press.

(It also leaves me worried about the english community in CH, tbh.)

I think you totally missed Seyon's point. My interpretation of his/her comment was that, much as you had been heralding the start of spring and the accompanying upturn in spirits, he/she simply pointed out that the weather until recently has been rather good. And thus, any indication of sunnier dispositions should have already been apparent ...

It's good to hate. Find something you can really, truely despise with the very fabric of your being, channel all your abhorrence toward that one thing, and then, after a while, bottle it all up inside and forget about it forever. Repeat.

Guaranteed bliss*

*Side-effects may include rage induced Blackouts and mental breakdowns

Don't wait for people to contact you - it's voting time soon, use one of the last few privileges that you have as an "uneducated Swiss person living in 1720" while you still can. Because if it was up to some members, we shouldn't be let out for fear of choking on our own stupidity.

In other news, I wonder whether the businesses that are financially involved in EF realise that the EF team has "employed" a person who has, not just in the complaints corner, been in direct contravention of Article 261bis of STGB, also known as the Rassismus-Strafnorm. The exact wording (in German, since English is as of yet not a national language) is:
Quote:
Art. 261bis Rassendiskriminierung
Following a court decision of the Bernese court on 26th of December 2008, a man was found guilty for making discriminating statements against the "Swiss-Germans" on a website. The statements were:
Quote:
The "Swiss-Germans" were found to qualify as an "ethnic group", so logically, all Swiss could qualify as an "ethnic group". To repeatedly debase the inhabitants of this country on the English Forum would therefore qualify as "spreading ideologies that are derogatory to an ethnic group in public".

While opinions are part of what a free country is about (even if it's the only free thing going, granted), the law has something to say too. And in this case, it says that, even if one tries to hide behind the excuse of being ironic and funny, what is written stands and since I was quite cross today and spent a bit of time making screen shots of some of the more damning statements, it will still stand if someone decides to be spineless and delete what has been said. As for suggesting that an internet persona cannot be touched, well, the owner of a website with a commercial background can.

Right, exit Kittster stage left, enter scrutiny by those concerned with such matters right. Some of us don't have to write letters, they just make a phone call.

Does putting things in quotation marks stop you being liable?

It wasn't me who said it originally, merely quoting. Hence the quotation marks.

I am not sure who you are addressing this post to but, personally, no it has not ... but then I am in full possession of the much discussed English sense of humour and irony.

No one is ever always happy-happy, smiley-smiley all of the time, even in their home country. So I don't understand why anyone would think they have to be like that all the time, even in a different country.
