Someone stepped on our rental car!

So much for peace and order! During the weekend, someone stepped up on the rear bumper, onto the roof and made a huge dent in the middle of the roof.

Luckily the car is not mine, and I have Excess Damage Waiver, but anyway - what a way to behave.

I think I am going to report it, even if the rental company does not require it.

You must get a local police report. Where are you staying? Do you need the address of the nearest police station? They are often only open during shopping hours. You will definitely need it for the insurance company, otherwise you will not be covered!

Re: Someone stepped on our rental car!

I have reported it, as much because I think it should be added to police statistics (that sort of behaviour annoys me).

But I did not get a police report, the officer phoned the rental company HQ. As I do not own the car, I cannot sign the document. The police officer explained that I could get all documentation I needed from the rental company.

Same story when I phoned the rental company desk in Zurich earlier.

And a bit of extra info for people reporting this sort of thing: I tried first at the Gemeindepolizei, only to be told (in very friendly terms) that it belonged with the Cantonal police.
