WG Nightmares

I am a new student from New York. I've been in Zürich for about two months and I've been looking for a place in the city. Finally, I was able to land a place in Kreis 4. Even though it's temporary. It's something.

What is up with this interview process? I have seen apartments that have tenants who have coffins in their living rooms and getting rejection letters left and right. But this is by far my favorite. I cannot tell if the guy is asking me out on a date or if this is just normal. Dazed and confused.

"Hi ****

It's sunday night, time to have taken my decision. Unfortunately I didn't decide for you. Nevertheless it was nice to be with you. I'd be interested to meet you for a coffee sometimes. You too?

I wish you good luck for going on searching for a place to stay.

(Swiss Guy)"

Re: WG Nightmares

Definitely asking for a date...

As for the interviewing process I think it's kind of normal here (and in the UK, at least). You interview each applicant because they might look okay on paper but be a complete cock when you meet them. Likewise for the interviewee - you might not want to live in a WG with people who store coffins in their living rooms.

I don't know, I would love to live with someone with a coffin in the living room

Re: WG Nightmares

Aww... he sounds sweet. You should totally go for a coffee with him.

Glad to hear you have found somewhere, even if it is only temporary! People come and go all the time, so get networking. Your next apartment is much more likely to be landed through a friend of a friend than a newspaper ad.

Even if it came empty: Did it go out with a body inside ? If so, was that in line with communal disposal laws ?

Re: WG Nightmares

That doesn't sound like a "WG nightmare." It sounds like the absolutely normal proceedure of finding a WG. If it's a good flat and well-advertised, there will be way too many applicants. They will have to choose between the best of them and some great applicants will be rejected. It's hard to find a flat sometimes. In any case, people who live in WGs are usually more socially-oriented and honestly want to have contact with other interesting people. The coffee offer sounds really normal to me. Accept it or not, up to you.

Well you didn't have to go and tell everyone in the world about it! I just don't like living with people I want to date... it's not very natural otherwise...

how about that coffee?

Ha Ha...... this would be soooo funny if you are a bloke as well?

I'd say this is definiately a date request.

Go for the coffee...... and for pure entertainment value for the thread, let us know how the date went.

(I double dare you !!!)

I am as you say "a bloke." I am seriously debating whether or not to do it. It's extremely hard to meet people here. I have very few acquaintances. None of which are Swiss.

Wasn't there a thread somewhere about how difficult it was to get a date in Zurich??

Easier than to get a room, it appears

NOOOOOOOOoooooooooo !!!!!!!!

Ha Ha Ha !!!

It's probably not "Bromance" actually.
Given the level of English, it was perhaps just lost in translation.

In saying that, I haven't adapted well to the European lifestyle here, and would still initially interpret the following invitations from the same gender as follows:

"Would you like to go for a Beer" (Would you like to go for a beer)
"Would you like to go for a coffee" (Would you like to wrestle naked)

- approach with caution.

So you basically got a friendship request IRL from a Swiss person?
You realize that's achieving more than 90% of EFers have done? And yet you complain about it?
