No DB NO! I can tell you on very good authority that in fact it is the raki that makes you request the chili s and incidentally the small ones burn twice! Priedna appetit

Im suddenly drooling for a 1 euro, kiddie sized döner that i hardly finish from waldshut. Or on a plate without the crust but with fries. Their serving gets bigger and bigger everytime we go there.
Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I will make a note of all these various words, and also widen my search area... also I worked out to ask for a "Durum" rather than just a "kebab" as then is simply comes in a bun....and then paying 8CHF for a Durum...
the bizarre thing is back int he UK I probobly only ate kebabs once a month, and only then at 2am after a night out... in a similarly way I only ate fish and chips once or twice a year normally... but have actually now bought myself a deep fat fryer, and have been making my own batter, to make proper fish and chips..... 9CHF for a bit of Halibut from Co-Op..... and homemade chip cut from baking potatoes...

Ahh yes, a thing that has happened to many of us with "comfort" foods and / or things we only occasionally wanted when it was readily available.
Welcome to Switzerland!

I didn't miss the chilis yet, but putting cocktail sauce on a Döner is really gross. As is the fact that they keep the chopped-off meat warm for hours instead of cutting it off when ordered.

Love and miss good ole British fish 'n' chips but haven't quite reached the stage of buying a deep fat fryer yet. However, reading your post seriously brings me one step closer...
As for your kebab woes, you have my commisserations although there are some pretty good ones (chicken in my case) to be had from two places I know of. One in Zurich Center and the other in Winterthur. Neither beats my kebab local in the UK though.
Whenever I've asked for my food in a Turkish shop, kebab or otherwise, to be made a bit more spicy, they make it more salty. Oh for some good UK takeaway!

Our Döner place told us that most of germans and swiss can't handle a good spicy taste. This is why they do the soft version. But I am sure if you ask for Aci (pronounced :aji and means: spicy) they will had some Pul Biber in it!

Can you share the location of the one in Zurich center please? So far I have only tried a kebab in 2 places and I thought I rather don't do it again So I look forward for a decent one.
