Re: Swiss rip-offs

Swiss kids will do just fine. They will live on Red Bull and cigerettes till they are 30 and then go to Far East, get a wife and start a restaurant serving Oriental food.

Then sit back in the corner of the restaurant and get back to smoking a cigerette with some beer or coffee. Red Bull will have to go.

Please keep it on topic Porsch.

My beef with Swiss rip-offs are the sheer price to pay for (mostly inferior) meals at restaurants along with the lack of service provided.

With that price of beef here, I would not even use it in an internet post!

That is because Beer in Switzerland is taxed at a lower rate.

Make that 16-25 year olds...of course they know how to trawl the internet..but certainly won't trawl it for a bargain as they traditionally won't leave the nest until they're around 22 and therefore, don't necessarily care for a bargain (because they don't have to pay the bill) and are not in possesion of a credit card.
22yo, I have heard of a few still in the nest at 34, they seem to be staying longer with the parents these days.

Maybe its a case of "wont jump until their pushed", personally i would hate to be 19, and trying to plan my life and future in this current economic climate, even in rosy Switzerland.

Let me rephrase:

"That is because Beer in Switzerland is taxed at a lower rate. "

*I have even underlined the sarcasm, just incase it gets lost in translation.

Just wait, the way the economy is going, soon they will be living in Joint Familiy Systems like in Asia.

Re: Swiss rip-offs

I needed to get a breast ultra-sound done (only on the right, but I didn't really think this was an issue). Visit lasted 7 minutes and doctor checked both. I received the bill - Total 300 chf - and I was charged PER BREAST. So make sure to specify whether both breasts need to be checked next time you ladies need to do it too.

Price of cars, new and 2nd hand
Car parts
The fact a single on swiss air is more expensive then a return, wtf is that all about???
I read somewhere that airlines assume you're a business traveller if you fly one way (business travellers tend to not know how long they will stay in a place) and therefore give you a 'business price' which obviously a business traveller wouldn't blink at.

Really? £2 a few years ago, but not today. A pint of lager and a pint of bitter in the local tonight = £7 (for both pints together, not individually)

Re: Swiss rip-offs

I find that restaurants and hotels are too expensive for what they offer if compared to nearby countries.

Hotels in the UK often have offers, in CH the price remains almost always very high. There are also good offers on Priceline and Hotwire.

Same goes for backpacking and 1/2 star lodging such as Travelodge ( got a double room at London City Road for GBP22 all inclusive - hard to get one here - tried it when was taking an early morning flight from Basel - nothing less than CHF60 ).

Hard to get less than CHF5 a meal here.

GBP50 a week ( 7 days ) for a family of 4

Sainsbury's latest 'Feed your family for £50' campaign - which gives families week-long menus and tells them all the ingredients they will need for seven days - kicked off yesterday.

The cost is equivalent to just 60p a meal per person.

Re: Swiss rip-offs

Passed by H&M yesterday and got a little bit of a shock. For some reason, I was convinced big international clothing stores didn't change prices according to countries (probably influenced by the ZARA price tags).

The same shirt I bought in Portugal last month for 14 € costs 30 CHF. The coat I got for 25€ was 70CHF.

Last time I checked the banks, 1 € was not worth 0.50 CHF.

I knew clothes here were more expensive, but this is ridiculous...
