That's a problem in a lot of places. It's often cheaper to replace the whole thing than to buy a spare part.
It means they sell more but is not helpful in decreasing he amount of rubbish being dumped in landfill.

Crocks are 100chf, compared to 29.99 for the same shoe in US.
Thats because the USA is supporting child labour by buying something that is clearly too cheap

So the same shoes sold by the same company are made by child labourers for the American market, and skilled, well-paid artesans for the Swiss market?

Yep only difference is the swiss retailer is smart enough to make a decent profit

If the Swiss shoes are being made by skilled, well-paid artesans, I doubt the Swiss retailer is getting much out of it...

No they're not.

I've bought a pair 4 years running (including May this year) and the most I paid was 59 francs from some place on Bahnhofstr, Zurich. All the other pairs were 30 - 40 francs.

One of the many joys of being 40+ is that weight that lifts with just not giving a *!*k anymore.

Anyway, I give it a year before Hipsters start wearing them 'ironically'

Cherries, 13chf/kg in Migros. I think it's the most expensive fruit I ever saw.

Hardly worthy of groaning poor Leafy just because he pays 40 francs for his Crocs now is it?

I've also never paid more than 40 francs, bought online. Do you have Internet in Solothurn?

I await your groan while proudly wearing my hospital Crocs

Many at totally inflated prices, i.e. not just the Chinese semi-slaves are taken advantage of but gullible Swiss consumers as well.

They're not gullible. You do realise that the quality of something increases in relation to the price, don't you?

In fact I'm going to start a new business where I buy complete crap that's broken, faulty or damaged. I'll then sell it on for a huge huge profit and these items will magically start to work perfectly. I've lived in Switzerland for 3.5 years and I'm now convinced that this is perfectly logical.

Re: Swiss rip-offs

Contact lenses, anyone?

I accidentally lost one down the sink drain and inquired into replacing it - the optometrist told me it was 400 chf for EACH eye, and I had to go get a checkup first with my opthalmologist. THese lenses are nice and local, made here in Lausanne. I smell a racket...

Apparently you can't buy good old Boston gas permeable lenses in this country. In the US, my brother's optometrist told him the most expensive ones he sells, for complicated eyes like his (astigmatism, big correction, rigid gas permeable, etc ) are $300 a PAIR. I'm waiting until I get back to North America to get a new lens.

The groan was simply for his comment of saying that my post was incorrect.
Not all prices are equal in Switzerland and I was simply sharing what I have seen as a expensive item compared to prices in US, wasn't complaining about the cost. I don't wear them! But for a piece of rubber it's costly!!
No groan for you.
