Ive learned to do a lot of things here just because everything is cost-prohibitive.
Another example.. glasses here cost like 700 CHF. I bought them from China for 45 including shipping. | | | | | "On the fritz"??
As for glasses, what utter nonsense! I had my eye test yesterday afternoon and was told that there's nothing wrong with the frames I currently have, so it's only costing me CHF 187- for new lenses with a non-reflective, anti-scratch coating. New frames were from CHF 59- extra.

I wandered into Ramstein Optiks in Basel once.
Very few frames on display, no prices, have to see a ‘consultant’.
First pair of frames unveiled, chf2000 !
They were buffalo horn, but for 2k, I’d expect the whole animal as well.

Basically you are correct. Try to spend in France. It's expensive mainly because the payments to employees is ridiculously high and unjustified. Assistant (uneducated) to a farmer is paid more than CHF 4,000 to help him milking cows. No doubt you feel skimmed.

Rarely do we see white onions in shops /as in, white outer layer, not gold/. From time to time come across a pack of 6 onions /red, gold, white/, but always find at least 2 rotten ones in a pack. It's not a 2 grand frame, but it's annoying and looks like a rip off: packing stuff that is going bad with sought after, juicy, salad variety, stuff... | This user would like to thank VenusC for this useful post:

You can't put a price on Swiss quality.
Whenever you have a medical procedure performed on you, it is considered rude to ask about the cost in advance. Be patient and wait until you receive the bill. Then pay the goddamn thing within 10 days. | Quote: | | | | | Hi all,
We all know that Switzerland is expensive, and I'm certainly not complaining about prices in general. However, some things just seem insanely over-priced, more than just being expensive "because it's Switzerland". I tried to look for a thread about this in particular, but nothing.
So I got my doctor's bill for when my neck seized up a few weeks ago. My doctor is actually pretty cheap comparatively, but I got charged 70CHF for a bloody foam neck brace! Seems a little excessive for a piece of foam with velcro attached.
What things have you found here that are excessively (i.e. unreasonably) over-priced?
On the other side of the coin, there are plenty of things that are comparatively cheap... but that would be a whole other thread.

dont even start me on rip off Switzerland
The costs for my apartment have gone through the roof in the 6 years that it has owned me.
Tourist tax gone from a few francs per night stayed to 1400 a year now.
Canton tax from 60 a year to 400 now
Tax return is think of last years number and double it every year even with no declared income
local tax multiplied several times over 6 years
It costs more to park my car than to buy it
The Swiss policy seems to be look after the locals and lets rape the foreigner
I love the place but its wearing thin.

Everyone has a right to complain, but why not just sell up?
I love Saas-Fee, but own a holiday home there? In the most expensive country in Europe? And keep a spare car there? No thanks.
