I've been a "foreigner" in the UK, Nederlands and now Switzerland. My first week in the UK, I had a beer bottle thrown at me followed by the words: "chink, go home" - amongst other incidents through out the years that I've lived, worked and studied there, but I take away great memories of that place and till today, the best memories of my life always lead back to that country. Why let a few ignorant twats spoil it?

IMHO, they had the right to not let the wife use the toilet, but they didn't have the right to insult people like that. If any words related to discrimination, there should be a chance to sue them, no ?

This is probably extremely racist of me, but every time someone talks about suing, I have a little devil on my shoulder telling me "he's got to be American". For my obviously stupid stereotype, I ask Americans for forgiveness...

No. For a simple reason: This is not America. You do not sue people over a coffee.

If they did use offensive and discriminatory language, you can report them to the police and they can then press criminal charges.

No, there are no million dollar compensations either in Switzerland.

Im not American .. . but i learned quickly from US TV series ... The point is to put those people into trouble, or just scare them a bit...

I got an "allergy" to the word the day I read an American woman sued a microwave company because it was not writen on the manual that trying to "dry" your pet inside a microwave will result in death of said pet. And she won... *sigh*

I got two really strange "groans" on other posts and have no idea why. But, hey, I took it like a lady, smiled and let it go. Life's too short to dwell on the unkindly.

You are rite. This is CH, where is you don't read your contract properly you buy your property looking like a prison because contractors didn't bother paying further for super expensive experts. To each system their own, I wouldn't make fun of US, although I know you probably really just wanted to state the obvious. There are crazy law suites all over.

I feel bad for OP who's probably shell-shocked, gentle wife got some jerks offloading on her. I think I would write a letter to them, show it to the wife and send it, just to feel better, posting a copy to cantonal business office, there is a center like that, quoting their phrases they used and explaining that simple explanation would suffice and that OP as foreigner simply expected the level of service they are used to from abroad. Nothing will probably change, but might make OP feel better.

I am glad OP took the criticism quite lightly and adapted to level of biting we offer, free of charge, hahaha..

I believe you missed the point of my story which was that not everyone takes such slights to their dignity as a challenge. Sometimes you just need to hear that it's OK to be scandalised by such behaviour.

The country I was in is considerably smaller and far, far more xenophobic than one mere story can relate and harbours a good deal more than a few ignorant twats. If the country had fewer of them I might still be there today.

And my 'usual handle'? I'm new here so you might have me confused with someone else.

Or you could just learn about Snopes and do a bit of research before believing such nonsense...
