| | Insane noise thanks to the fire brigade...
Ok, I live in a village and I understood that the volunteer fire brigade needs to market the "fun" of being a firefighter in order to get enough members. I would also use the current village party as the perfect occasion to do so. However, since this morning do they allow each and every local kid to switch the horn on and off. All the time. From three vehicles which obviously have slightly different horns. This results in a continuously changing cacophony taking place some fifty meters away from my apartment and is really hardly bearable anymore.
I had noise complaints with passive aggressive notes from neighbours before in this country that I dared to leave a ventilatory fan in a bathroom on over night... how on earth can you have wider double standards than this?

How can people get agitated with footsteps and toilet flushing when I have to listen to the 3am chime from four different churches in the vicinity. I don't actually mind the chimes, but if you can deal with one you can deal with the other.

It's after 7pm (or a Sunday) and you're trying to make sense out of the following noise ordinance sign located on the bottle collection containers. Einwurfzeiten Wertstoff-Sammelstellen
Montag bis Samstag von 7 bis 19 Uhr. An Sonn- und Feiertagen und ausserhalb der Geschäftszeiten die Wertstoff-Sammelstellen bitte nicht benutzen – die Nachbarn danken Ihnen.
rough translation:
Recycling collection times.
Monday till Saturday from 7am to 7pm.
Please do not use the collection bins after business hours, on Sundays and national holidays. Your neighbors thank you.

It is just for a day. And it is an occasion for the kids to use the horns freely. The nice weather gave you lots of ways to get OUT, so what

- I wake up by the sound of a fire horns wondering if the neighbourhood is on fire...
- The sound drove me crazy all day; Hard to believe, but I did have to do some housework at home. Yes, I eventually left the house to escape from the sound.
- The sirens stopped in the late afternoon. Not to give me a rest, but because of the soundcheck for the "100 years of our village firebrigade" party... I could not care less about the live Volksmusik as my TV with the CL final was loud enough.
- From 00.00 to 04.00 do I get annoyed by loud shouting drunk people on their way home. I am not kidding, my bedroom window is out to the street and some idiot woke me up at 4 am by shouting and singing loudly in front of it.
I am really not the type that does begrudge people having a good time... but yes, this was a bit much for me. This was the first time in Switzerland that I considered to call the cops and make a noise complaint. I decided not to, as the really drunk people would probably not shut up when the cops come but quite the opposite.
This party screwed up my entire weekend, I nearly overslept my appointments today thanks of the late night idiots. Yes, it was just a one time thing. One to forget.

There is a railway track there by my bedroom's window. Tonight the temps are high and need to let the fresh air in and to cool down. Cannot stop these trains from making a noise but will sleep tight and dream of choo choo train journey to wonderland.

Never had a problem: You get used to the always same noise and you can sleep. But it's impossible to get used to shouting people. I lived on the ground floor in a not-so-rich part of a city before. Never again.
