Have you tried calling the company to follow up with them? Maybe they lost your application?

It's fine and dandy to complain on the forum but if you only submitted an application without any kind of follow up after a sensible amount of time, who's to say what has happened? Could be an honest mistake.
Of course Ive contacted cablecom.. its not like anyone here can do anything about these uesless companies.. Im just venting

Ive called cablecome enough times for them to know me on a first name basis.. and yet still noone knows nothing..

3 ing months Ive been waiting for internet and I live in the centre of Geneva
3 ing months Ive been waiting for a B permit.. (3 hours waiting at the office last week only to be told to keep waiting).. and in the 3 months Ive been stopped and searched by the zoll.

I used to think this country has a good quality of life and was really looking forward to moving here.. but the people here just dont give a sht (besides the number of beggars that roam the streets makes you wonder )

The institutions here are a joke.. "C'est comme ca" seems to be a way of life. ing monopolies on practically everything.. uuuugh there is no competition so no improvement in service.. For instance I tried to buy a monthly abonoment for the TPG transport system.. duh no I cant do it on line u have to come into the office.. and guess what everyone else in Geneva has to as well and there is only 2 or 3 offices in the whole geneva only 1 in central Geneva .. 1 1/2 hours wait

Australia even the UK seem to have their act together more

END RANT
That's exactly what I've been saying...this whole quality of life is one big misconception. I find it a very inconvenient place to live as everything is so difficult.

When I moved here I ordered my internet package right away because I'd heard it could take a while to organize.

Seven weeks later, when I still hadn't heard anything from the company, I phoned them to check.

Turned out they had sent me a cable modem - the very next day - only to have it returned as "undeliverable" because my name wasn't on the mailbox yet. Oops.

Any chance you're in the same boat?

Call and tell them due to the poor service which you didn't even get, you're moving to Swisscom instead .......you'll get internet in 24 hours, this is how it works in Geneva

OK, next time they say that, here's what to do:

Hang up the phone and call the technicians. You need to be persistent or you won't get this sorted out.

As far as cablecom are concerned, they are just waiting... they don't care how long it takes. You do care, so you go make some phone calls and get it straightened out.

Cablecom is definitely a weird fish - most peoples experience is that you have to keep on their case.

I remember reading on here that someone had physically gone to their offices in Zurich, router in hand, to demand service.

They are that bad. So roll up your sleeves and step up your campaign to almost stalker status.

I must admit (even if I risk getting hung, drawn and quartered) that I find CableCom quite pleasant and efficiant, they have allways been helpfull and I have never had a problem with their service.

Re: Switzerland.. Only the watches work properly

We haven't had any trouble with Cablecom either.

Our landlord is switching the building to Swisscom though so that may change in the future as hubby wants to keep Cablecom. (I have no idea how that works.)

So far as the permit thing goes.

We started applying for me to come here shortly after my hubby returned here from the US when we got married, which was May 7th. It finally came through the following MAY. Now, part of this IS the fault of my husband and myself as we both tend to procrastinate to some extent but even so... every time I called to speak about what was going on, I asked for the same person each time and each time she had no idea who I was, where my file was or what was going on.

Meanwhile, as far as I remember, YOU shouldn't be HERE while the permit is being processed anyhow. This may be part of what's causing some problems and delays. Also, sorry to say, if your 3 mos as a visitor is up, you really need to hop on that plane too because if you're caught here "illegally," that does not bode well for your chances of receiving a permit either - unless of course you received some sort of special circumstance waiver (assuming such things exist) allowing you to be here without a permit.

One thing to keep in mind here also is that each canton handles things like permits separately, it doesn't have to do with Switzerland on a federal level. As the entire country has only as many people as some of the major cities of the world (and fewer people than plenty of them), it's really no surprise to me that it sometimes feels like government runs a bit like some backwater county in the US... as slow as molasses in wintertime.

It took me four years to get a phone and cable TV, and another 9 or so to get DSL!

Re: Switzerland.. Only the watches work properly

Geneva is the problem. The people there just do not care at all.

I have lived in Fribourg, Vaud, Geneva and Berne. Geneva was twice as bad as the others.

Peg is right, be careful with regard to your 3 month permission!
