Cablecom are OK. It's a sport in some ways - they are very process-oriented.
Examples:
1. Move with cable modem to 1-year-old apartment. "We'll send a tech to check the connection" - "It's brand new" - "We'll send a tech" - Tech: "Why did they send me, it's brand new" - "Just send the info to them it works, thanks". Bingo, it worked shortly after.
2. New set-top box and card. Never would activate. Complain. Get new box and card. Works. Ask for returns label to return defective box.....falls on deaf ears. Box in cellar. Still.
3a. Call up to add Internet to my package. Swisscom ends 31st, I want it from the 1st. Call up on the 31st when the cable modem hasn't arrived and ....... get told it'll arrive 1st or 2nd (WTF #1).
Call up on the 1st as it arrives..."do you need the MAC to activate the modem?" - "No".
Call up 4 more times over the next 2 days and it finally comes on. They needed the MAC and their activation server was down.
3b. Get my first post-"upgrade" bill and I've lost the half-price TV I had and gained a "free" phoneline that I never wanted. Tried completing the online form to complain (heck, I know they read the inbound stuff and I am not sitting on the phone for 5 hours) but it would not validate my customer number. So I hack it and put in my long message complaining about the upselling and detail my requirements (TV half-price and Internet only with no cost for the change). 4 business days later, I got a confirmation and new bill amount - 2 days before the deadline I gave them before I would escalate.
It is how you handle these people. Get someone not running through a script and you're ok. Know how to escalate and you're ok.
As for the permit, they had to harass me to get one, I was not really bothered.
As for the customs people.....they don't hassle me as I simply don't fall into the demographic cross-section they tend to check on - yes, that's usually males with darker complexions. But I assume it's also based on experience of schemers past and present.
Finally, do your own washing, you lazy git.

I have lived in Fribourg, Vaud, Geneva and Berne. Geneva was twice as bad as the others.

Geneva AND Cablecom?! You're really pushing your luck.
But in all honesty... one is a bureaucratic communist shithole with too much foreign money the other is a stingy company that rather spends money on marketing than customer relations.. | | Re: Switzerland.. Only the watches work properly | Quote: | | | | | Done that ages ago | | | | | That was ages ago. Do it again.
1) Call cablecom, get them to tell you that they are waiting for the technician. Say "fine, I'll call him myself." Get his name and number.
2) Hang up, immediately call the technician. Tell him "I just got off the phone with cablecom, and they say they are still waiting for you to call them." Ask him to call them again. (Maybe he already did, maybe he didn't. Doesn't matter so don't argue about it.)
3) If he insists he's already called them, squeeze any data you can out of him (what date/time did he call? who did he talk to?) and immediately ring cablecom back. Ask to speak to the same person again (you did get her name, right?) "I just got off the phone with the technician and he says..."
Repeat as necessary ("I just rang cablecom back and they've got no record...") until one side gives in and agrees to call the other.
C'mon. This is an annoying, time-wasting chore, but it ain't rocket science.

Hey hey hey... wait a minute Squidy... How DARE you complain about our fine, efficient and non-polluting way of life... You come in here .. stay for about 3 months and want miracles?? Well let me tell you mister... We don't tolerate that kind of behaviour in here...
You have to earn your right to complain... meaning you have to get yelled at by old people for no apparent reason, not get an apartment after putting in for 50 of them... get useless bills that you always pay for at least 2 years... get your bicycle stolen.... pay 10 times the price for a bagel... get harrassed at the zoll etc etc... before you even ATTEMPT and I mean ATTEMPT to start complaining...
NOW GET BACK IN LINE! | Quote: | | | | | 3 ing months Ive been waiting for internet and I live in the centre of Geneva
3 ing months Ive been waiting for a B permit.. (3 hours waiting at the office last week only to be told to keep waiting).. and in the 3 months Ive been stopped and searched by the zoll.
I used to think this country has a good quality of life and was really looking forward to moving here.. but the people here just dont give a sht (besides the number of beggars that roam the streets makes you wonder )
The institutions here are a joke.. "C'est comme ca" seems to be a way of life. ing monopolies on practically everything.. uuuugh there is no competition so no improvement in service.. For instance I tried to buy a monthly abonoment for the TPG transport system.. duh no I cant do it on line u have to come into the office.. and guess what everyone else in Geneva has to as well and there is only 2 or 3 offices in the whole geneva only 1 in central Geneva .. 1 1/2 hours wait
Australia even the UK seem to have their act together more

Oi ! enough of the "slag off Geneva cos were all so cool" routine.
I like Geneva ; I never had any of those problems - well at least my butler didn`t .
I never got pulled out by the polizei (incidentally if they was Polizei, they wasn`t Geneva s finest) cos I pay every month as everyone else does, and I got my internet in 24 hours - well my IT department did - with no hassle at all.
So if youre having problems , you need to sort your team out instead of blaming the local quango.
