no they were police with zoll polizei written on their jumpers who decided that it would be fun to stop me on the train and empty the contents of my bags onto Feurthalen train station platform (P.S. I was carrying a weeks worth of washing to my GF.. as well as my weekend backpack)
This only happened to this non-white male once and it was on a train from Basel to Germany (and done by the germans [yes, they pissed me off]).

You can complain all you want about Geneva and I think it would be fair but the profiling thing seems to be more predominant in the German mindset, maybe that's why you got that treatment in the Swiss-German side.

Concerning Cablecom, I wanted to go with them but when they explained the procedure to get internet (check building, lay out cable, check again, etc, etc) I just hanged up and called Swisscom. Yes, I hate monopolies but I hate wasting my time more than that.

The beggars thing is a real issue and people are getting sick of it. Anybody knows if something is moving in that direction?

3 ing months Ive been waiting for internet and I live in the centre of Geneva
3 ing months Ive been waiting for a B permit.. (3 hours waiting at the office last week only to be told to keep waiting).. and in the 3 months Ive been stopped and searched by the zoll.

I used to think this country has a good quality of life and was really looking forward to moving here.. but the people here just dont give a sht (besides the number of beggars that roam the streets makes you wonder )

The institutions here are a joke.. "C'est comme ca" seems to be a way of life. ing monopolies on practically everything.. uuuugh there is no competition so no improvement in service.. For instance I tried to buy a monthly abonoment for the TPG transport system.. duh no I cant do it on line u have to come into the office.. and guess what everyone else in Geneva has to as well and there is only 2 or 3 offices in the whole geneva only 1 in central Geneva .. 1 1/2 hours wait

Australia even the UK seem to have their act together more

END RANT
OMFG! Go back where you came from...there are a few others who would join you I'm sure...

Don't worry, this is par for the course on EF. Every complaint usually has a HTFU comment/reply thrown in for free.

no...get some real reasons to complain...you are not complaining here..you are showing simply how you are helpless and lack skills in dealing with minor issues...what sort of work do you do?

Re: Switzerland.. Only the watches work properly

My first Swiss watch died after 2 years because the idiot changing the battery didn't reapply sealant and water got in. So the watches don't work properly either.

You fail in your rant, because only people from Geneva think it is part of Switzerland. The rest of us, well...

<ducks for cover>
Whereas many Baslers considers Basel to be not part of Switzerland (referring to the other cantons as "Swiss" ). It's a nice symmetry.

Well seeing that this is an internet forum then internet connectivity is a very relevant topic to discuss. It also seems that I am not the only person to have comment on such difficulties.. so it musnt that minor.. and what if I was to say that my work involves online shopping and web design.. would that make internet connectivity any more of an issues?

And in relation to the slow progress of getting a work permit for a position that I was offered that doesnt feel that minor either.. thought getting your bags emptied in public would probably piss you off too.

No the reason I think u dismiss this as minor is your probably swiss or been fully swissified.. with the sepp blatter.. problem.. what problem attitude??

It seems that a lot of swiss are like sheep and will accept any that large intitutions tell them as long as they think that switzerland is one of the greatest countries with the 2nd highest standard of living in the world.. maybe it was in the 1960s.. but in the time Ive lived here..

uff..getting nasty now huh?...calling me Swiss or Swiss-ified?! call me all other names but not Swiss...there are some converts on this forum but I'm not nor will ever be one...

If you bothered to search this great forum you would find answers on how to deal with some of the issues. You would see that 3 months to wait for permit is also not so unusual.

not getting nasty more annoyed about your objection to a complaint on the complaints forum... Oh Ive search the forum dont you worry about that, and certainly applied the knowledge that Ive learnt here, and am completely greatful to the posters.. however that certainly doesnt make getting f*"cked around by this person and that or put on hold and transferred between phones any more pleasant. And nowhere was I asking for advice on how to deal with the so called "swiss way" I am simply airing my grievances as people are entitled do on open forums and it truly seems that I am not alone.

But what annoys me the most is the objecting to my complaint is the attitude that seems to be prevalent in a lot of societies including the "swiss way" that condemns any open objection to problems that affect people living in the real world i.e. shut up and accept it and do what your told".. it defeats the whole purpose of open internet forums may and u may as well ditch democracy too.

p.s. I dont mind waiting more than 3 months its annoying that I cant get a orange phone or something like that . what does annoy me is getting harassed by the gestapo directly because of govt incompetance

listen...perhaps you are just not very resourceful, spoiled etc etc...few posters gave you some good tips about complaining etc etc...I've lived my life in 2 very different countries and I can tell you that generally speaking this country functions incredibly well. Of course, there is a number of things that suck and are not acceptable but they are minor..broad statements such as your title to this thread are plain stupid...with time if you manage to get through your current tragedy you might learn to appreciate this little country...

all the best to you

Why bother have a complaints forum .. and dont patronise me u dont know me my work has taken me to many more than 2 countries and maybe ur from Pakistan so this place would be paradise for you.. But for the shit load of taxes I pay and the costs of services here Im entitled to gripe about what I am getting for my money.

The point in the title I am making is that the watches may be on time but everything else here is slow and late does that not compute? or like the good little citizen will you just roll over and cop it with a smile.

Enjoy your public holiday, I will do so, and it being internet free isnt such a bad thing.

Good luck to you

Certainly, and it sounds like Cablecom is jerking you around. The permit thing is hit or miss. I went months without a permit after I handed in my B waiting for the C. When Cablecom yanks my chain I just go there and they jump.

Don't get too bothered by posters who aren't 100% sympathetic though- there's a huge cross section of folks here and some are fluffier than others. Mr. Jaro is pretty non-fluffy. (except for that gorgeous hair )
