Hello everyone.....

I had a situation tomorrow. I bought an article(washed clothes stand) from ALDI herblingen . After paying at the cashcounter i asked the cashgirl if she can look after my article as it was really big and i wanted to go to the nearby shop. she said yes and i left it at the counter opposite her. when i came back after 20 minutes my article was gone ! i asked the same cashgirl and she said she doesnt know. she started asking me like what was the item and where it was as if she knew nothing. at last after asking them to enquire n everything i asked them to give me another stand, but they are saying we cannot do anything, u have to buy it again. they are not even telling me if i can speak to someone else from the authority. now i dont know to whom i should speak.........i have already paid for that stand but i dont have it. and the worst part is they are not speaking to me. please tell me what shud i do? please suggest me if u can.bcoz i m upset. i have the reciept with me.

Firstly, if it is not a very expensive item (say less than CHF 50), it might not be worth it.
If you know someone who speaks Swiss-German you might go with them to the store so that they can explain the situation properly (even though it seems you were able to get yourself understood, it's always better to have a native on your side...)
Also, stores have security cameras, especially near checkout. Have the store manager look at the camera. Though that seems a bit of overkill unless it is something expensive or hard to obtain.

I have done this a couple of times (Manor and Coop), and each time they gave me a "drop-off" kind of receipt where I had proof I had left the items with them.

Take your till receipt with you and speak to the manager. As was suggested above, if you are a bit wobbly in the native language, try and get someone to come along and fight your corner.

It is a bit "your word against theirs" because there is no proof you left the item with the shop but be determined and up front with them and be very clear about the details.

If they go through their stock, they would find that they have one extra clothes stand which, I guess, the shop assistant put back on the shelf.

Someone else put it back on the shelf without asking the cashier and when she saw it was gone she thought it safest to play dumb.

i know rxg..it costs not even 50 francs. but actually it is the question of my dignity as a regular customer of Aldi. how can they just 'do nothing' on my part?? yesterday i came back thinking 'let it go,its just a few bucks.' but now i think i shud do smthing. cheking video footage is a good idea. i was also thinking the same. thanx rxg and everyone. does anyone knowabout smone who has faced a similar situation anywhere???

just coming frm aldi..........they gave me the stand .......i took one of my deutch friend and she spoke to the person in charge of aldi...no arguements nthing she simply gave it back to me. thanks everyone !!!

Maybe the OP's mother tongue is Hindi where yesterday and tomorrow are the same word and the meaning is derived from the tense of the verb.

You're right about the Hindi. It's in the profile. Interesting info about the language. No wonder we sometimes have problems understanding one another though.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. That's a very deep thought of equalizing yesterday and tomorrow...I think I've just had a "if a tree falls in the forest...." moment.

Most shops refuse for that very reason. If you leave an item behind it has to be at your risk. Most likely somebody else picked it up and walked away. Like all of us, learn from your mistakes and go forth.

Well neither yesterday or tomorrow actually exists; only this moment exists & it passeth quickly by.......

well my friend spoke to the store manager in german and she did not have to argue much. she told her that u can look at ur video footage maybe and see who actually took the stand and the store manager just gave me the new stand. but.....thats how we learn..i used to think its so safe here n whats the harm in leaving behind smthing at the counter? nobody takes a single penny here .......bt now i know that if smthng happens no one takes responsibility. Also it is a fact that due to language ignorance it gets difficult to ask for ur own rights smtimes.

Next on the to-do list is to bring those Aldi folks some nice bakery croissants in the morning.

i wont do that...those aldi folks are not at all friendly.......they dont even smile !!!
