ooo, getting a little touchy here, I thought there was thin veil of racism hanging around this anti Murray thread, I'm pretty anti Murray too, he's probably a co*k. Anyway pretty good for Dunblane/stirling (virtually the same place) and the tennis academy in Stirling Uni, first Scot to lift the trophy, would be good :-)
Anti-Murray thread? Yes there are some who don't like him (and have posted here), but this was never meant as an anti-Murray thread - go check my original post and subsequent comments about him...

It's actually quite a fun event. A friend of mine competed last year and I toyed with the idea of doing so myself this year, but I don't think my back/hip/shoulder will tolerate it.

Cheese man is always there though
Aside from cricket and football the brits have come up with some outrageous sports.

Gloucster Cheese rolling first comes to mind but also the bog race, thats english too no?

I would classify both of these as traditions, rather than sports, old bean.

[QUOTE=PaddyG;1227805]Don't forget, we were all British before we were English, Scottish etc

Any Scot will disagree with that comment. The "Britannia" name (consisting of Britons) was given by the Romans, and within this area there initially included the Caledonians. When Rome was unable to defeat and rule the Caledonian tribes (The Picts being one of them), and with themselves suffering many defeats at their hands, they built the Antonine wall as protection. This wall ran more or less along the Firth of Forth on one end, to the Firth of Clyde on the other, and was the most northern frontier of the Roman Empire (and not Hadrian's Wall as many believe)

Therefore the Caledonian tribes never really were true Britons

Re: Wimbledon 2011 - title's in the bag already...

Murray needs to take control of himself, if you look at the likes of "Rodgeur" or Rafa, even Djoko...you almost never ever see them whine like small brats, unlike Murray who at times looks like he is about to roll on the ground in a tantrum!

Regarding the British press one thing is for sure, if he makes a pig's ear of it this year the papers will mention "Scottish tennis star exits in 3rd round..."

Now, if he makes it to the semis or the final (and god forbid should he win it) you can bet your bottom $ the papers will start with "Britain's number 1 tennis player..."

"except for viewers in Scotland".....

Information for those who won't be able to sit in front of the telly the whole day and watch BBC broadcast. There is an application on iPhone called Wimbledon where you can see schedules of matches draws and associated press. In general all you need ro know about Wimbledon. There are some other apps as well for US Open, Australian Open and French Open. I have them all downloaded and arranged by date. It's very handy when your workmates stare at your screen and you don't want superior to be thinking that you are watching it the whole day online, same like with the EF

But in fairness we did win the Ashes back-to-back. I guess they (the media) were bound to get it right some time
Was more due to Aussie shittyness rather than English greatness though

The only good Ashes I've seen them win was the 2005 one....only to be spanked 5-0 a year later

Don't they have there retractable roof at least over the centre court so that they can play one match at the time? just to oppose good English weather http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com...pload_id=11469

What are the BBC on? Sharapova is on centre court and they have these two average players on?
