why don't you think of the perv possibly taking pics with his camera phone and pleasuring himself with a picture of YOUR child...or maybe take it a step further, sharing the pic online with other likeminded pervs
Well, at least you'd know your child was cute.

...for all those who think that "oh, it's Switzerland...and let kids be kids", why don't you think of the perv possibly taking pics with his camera phone and pleasuring himself with a picture of YOUR child...or maybe take it a step further, sharing the pic online with other likeminded pervs....or taking it even further and snatch Billy or Sally on the way home after school is out. And don't act like such horrific crimes don't happen in Switzerland. Just because the system is lax in terms of personal rules and protection doesn't necessarily mean that it's safe. Just saying.
What are the kidnap rates in CH?
What are the kidnap rates by strangers, vs. person known to victim, in CH?
What are these rates vs. other countries with more "restrictive" policies?

I've no idea, but generally speaking I'd be willing to bet that you have a much greater chance of being run over by a bus, or, in CH, tram than be kidnapped.

Just saying.

This morning at chinagarten, I was totally shocked and disgusted with the group of young boys and girls went totally naked running and playing around at the playground and the park. What really shocked me further was these group of young kindergarten kids were brought by two or three teachers to the park. And these teachers allowed them to go around naked!! These teachers supposed to be educating the young children, and should also understand that there are such paedophiles around, and they should keep the kids from such harm. Where is the morale here? I wonder what would the parents feel if they see their kids were running around naked like this??
Or tell me, does the society in Switzerland allows this to happen?
When I first got here (from London), I found it incredible that parents let their kids cycle to the next village ALONE!!! No Chelsea Tractors, no muscle-Mommies, no protective pashminas?!? Is this civilisation????
Gradually, as my Red Alert To Pervert radar diminished, I began to see the beauty of kids cycling to school, bathing naked in the lake, and bascially enjoying being as free and safe as you can be.
I totally understand that wherever you've just come from will colour your view of what's acceptable.
But this freedom to be independent, naked and unselfconscious is a precious thing. And there aren't many places left where they can do it. So next time you see kids run around naked, applaud their liberty to do so.

And women should wear burkas to protect them form men - otherwise it's the women's fault if they are raped. Do you see how crude your logic is?

Yes, it's a holiday, and usually not on Sunday.

And this Thursday's a holiday, and next Wednesday...

Just hope the weather's nice!

Tom
Well, 23rd is a Catholic holiday, when Zürich downtown will be flooded by shoppers from both Central Switzerland and Southern Germany. BUT what is going on on 29th June ??

It is a holiday (everything closed) in Ticino.

Try Magliaso, Caslano, the Valli.

Tom
Well, I in case of the Lido di Lugano like its beautiful location and its nice restaurant, and the closeness to the nice city. I last year on a visit was to Tenero on the Lago Maggiore, nice place for swimming, nice restaurant, and a nice location. But may check up Magliaso next time, in combination with a visit to Agno Airport

Just a quick ride on the FLP, though I would recommend Caslano, smaller, less people, two more minutes on the FLP.

22nd ? This is NOT possible ! Why ? Because it cannot be before 1st August (for obvious reasons) and NOT after 15th August ! At least not in Zurich. It can well be in some rural Cantons, where the spring and autumn holidays are short and the summer holiday exceedingly long

Alright, I see. I will write to the authorities in Zürich that Friday or a Monday each year should become the Cantonal holiday of Felix and Regula and Exuperantius !

Alas, here it's the 29th (like Fathers' day is the 19th), so if it falls on a weekend, we lose out!

I though only the US did the Friday/Monday thing?

Yes, but then Grigioni could have a reason to ask for the return of the Valtellina!

You may know that "Veltliner Weine" (wines from the Valtellina) in Switzerland are regarded officially as "Swiss wines". I in military service had the duty to sell Veltliner Weine to my colleagues, and on the occasion of an unofficial and unplanned "Curry Night" on a Friday sold some 100 bottles of the stuff, a definite record. The Valtellina of course ought to be taken back !

Re: Naked kids at the park, brought by the teachers!

Kids are kids, or rather children are children. There are people out there who for some unknown reason would like to abuse children for their own sexual pleasure.

Children should be allowed to be children, just as people should be allowed to be people - they don't care about being naked or whatever, my youngest (3.5 years) was the youngest at a party we went to, he went everywhere naked the nearly teens and early teens went........... issue here but just laughed and enjoyed a little boy being a little boy.

Child abuse happens, most child abuse (about 90% +) is from a known family friend or from within the family), this has actually (from a UK experience) reduced from the 70's when I was a child - there was a far greater chance of me being abused by a stranger then there is now.

Let children be children, yes there is the chance that a nasty person would be taking photos, but if all the parents around are not worried or concerned then that person being a perv will feel really stressed out and worried - it is not rocket science that people become over protective and then BANG something happens - we could all get run over by a bus/tram/stuff but we still as adults (ok I'm in Geneva) still don't always wait for the green man......

If we as a society can continue the good manners, simple rules, and general sensible ideals that are human, then the idea that 'someone might be out their to kidnap your naked child' turns in to 'oh isn't it nice that everyone is having fun, and - oi, matey where are your children? and why do you have a camera, and oi, stay there whilst I call the police?'

In the UK you'd just be looking after your children and that's it..... not like here, where one mum asked if I'd keep an eye on her 3 (and my 2) whilst she popped back and got some fruit..........

Thats what being a parent is about, letting children being children and not being afraid about what the press say is an issue or a potential issue.

Power to the Suisse.

the media (in many countries) is in the fear-mongering game, because it is good for business.

I don't believe times have changed so much, we just are bombarded by fear mongers.

I am not denying bad things happen.
