| | Job lies... Hi everybody! I gotta get this off my chest - My blood's boiling about these job lies.... Here's what happened: a few years ago, I have approached an employer which I wanted to work with. We were in touch via E-Mail and they have confirmed that I get the offer of employment. But somehow (and I have the hell no idea how that came and what has made them changing their mind obviously) they keep postponing me all the time with the most odd excuses. That's insane, I am losing my patience. Is that just lies? There are laws but it seems that they don't care, huh? What would you do if in my shoes? Has anyone here gone throu such a situation? How did you solve that? Thanks for your spin on this! |

It's a sad and annoying fact of life that these things can happen.

Maybe they've gone out of business in the intervening years?
Seriously, I would give up and look elsewhere.

I guess you'll be like Prince Charles who will reach retirement age before working (he as a King and you for this company).

HR departments in Switzerland can operate very slowly.
They plan a long way in advance in the banks especially.
Im the UK everyone wants you to start yesterday.
In Switzerland the recruitment process can be a bit like dating someone you get to like a lot but you never get what you really want. You never sense when to quit.

We have lost many prospective employees due to bloody slow recruiting process. One candidate buggered off because other competitor answered faster to his application. And he accrpted it, even though he was offered significantly lower salary. I guess secured job and clear mind that the company wants you right here and right now cut the mustard way better than many weeks of playing with one's mind.

| | Re: Job lies... Hey you all, thanks for your replies and your input - it backs me up in my decision. It seems that moving on is the only way to get outta this dead end road "agreement" (or whatever it is). I was pulling my hair (and I had many many bad hair days eversince) long enough. It actually didn't happen only once, but 3 times to be exact. And that itself is annoying. The recruitment process seems to be a standard. File your application for a vacancy, get a call from someone who's excited, get to know them at the Interview, pass it and receive a confirmation via Mail that you are in, and then....... silence. Find out, it was just babbling. Any experiences with that? Happy rainy day to all of you out there | This user would like to thank sunnysideup for this useful post: | |

- It happened 3 times ? So it's what I call a recurring pattern.
- Did you ask them why they did not recruit you at the end?
- Could it be your background check that showed up a few things? (recommendation from former or current employer?)

Sounds like a miscommunication. If you were really "in", you would not be waiting three years even with the world's slowest HR. Some companies can be a bit too soft when it comes to letting you down, which can leave the impression that they have an intention to hire you when they do not.
If they actually do have the intention of hiring you, it sounds like a company you don't want to work for.

... | | | | | Dude, good on you!
Totally forget about them and this whole wasted experience. There are better companies to work for out there. Now you can 100% concentrate your energy and resources on finding one.
