| | This is messed up - a rail related to recycling
Why is it in a world where they are so nuts about recycling that the garbage, which appears to be very little, is picked up twice a week and the recycling is either bring it in or we'll pick it up every 6 weeks? Doesn't that seem backwards? | The following 5 users would like to thank john h for this useful post:

Recyclables do not tend to be a health hazzard, and can languish for longer periods. Other matter , not recyclable , tends to be more of a hazzard and needs to be cleared before rot/flies/scavengers get hold of it.
So, no, not backwards.

Just shove your recyclables in the normal rubbish bag. That's what I do.

Tell me about it! We've rented a car tomorrow for the express purpose of taking three months' worth of bottles to the bottle bank.
I suppose I should just be grateful that they do collect the trash twice a week. When we moved in, the real estate agent informed us it was once a week, Tuesday mornings. We looked at each other and thought, "right, no fish on a Wednesday ever again." | The following 4 users would like to thank MathNut for this useful post:

Head over to Payot or whatever large bookseller is near you, they ought to have a copy of this:
No answers- rather an understanding that answers aren't important. The process of asking the question is important.
If you're lucky they'll have an edition with the dozen or so additional chapters that were added from Franz's papers after he died. It. Never. Stops. | The following 4 users would like to thank Mud for this useful post:

We are a family and don't manage to accumulate so much. We take the glass bottles, tins and the PET recycling with us on the way to the shop and drop it off then.
Cardboard lives in the cellar until collection day (every 4 weeks). Paper is picked up every two weeks.
We could just do with clothing collections to be be a bit more often than every 6 months but there is a drop off about 1 km away if we are feeling desperate...

We have no collections for anything here at all! We have recycling facilities nearby, and have to take our rubbish bags to the local bin- which we can only open with a 'credit card style' personalised card- and our rubbish is weighed and paid for. We avoid over packaging like the plague. I can't remember the exact figures, but the UK recycles about 30% and Ch about 90% - I know which makes more sense. We are lucky to have the space for many compost bins.

I ask because the only ones that get picked up directly from outside the building are paper & cardboard. Everything else must get trundled down to the nearest recycle bins where you separate brown, green and white glass from each other and have a few additional for metals.
We now, within the last year (plus a lil more) have one that's actually on the way to a decent grocery within walking distance... I do still often forget to bring it with me though (and hubby refuses to bring with him on his way to work) so... |

Like Sandgrounder said, take the stuff with you when you do your grocery shopping or you're on your way to wherever and just drop it off then.

Back in the day, when we were so poor we had to live in a cardboard box, we dreaded recycling day.

Just shove your recyclables in the normal rubbish bag. That's what I do. | | | | | But the point is recycle is not rubbish. Back in the States, once a week I would take out the trash and also bring out the recycling in bins. One truck picks up the trash another the recycling.
The people here are much more vigilant about recycling and I would imagine less garbage. Just trying to figure out the thought process.
