Re: Our Middle Eastern Guests in Geneva

The last couple of times I was by the lake in Geneva I was approached by men and invited for coffee. (Once Mr S was only a few feet away).
But I am not in my 20s or 30s anymore and am older and confident enough to tell them to go away.

What I find so unacceptable is the behaviour of some of these men at the railway station towards young girls
I have witnessed shocking actions, words and groping of very young teenagers who were not dressed in a provocative way and gave no encouragement at all. A couple were quite distressed by the actions of these men.

It made me sick

What is the point of trashing?
No point.
I imagine, they do it because they can do it and usually get away with it.

I pity their sad lives, if they have nothing else to do or reach any goals in life.

Maybe time to find a new perfume. I'd recommend this one.

It is like those Hell Angels who used to come in the bar i worked when I was in my fresh 18. They will trashed the place, scared the people and come back the day after with a big fat enveloppe of dirty money to pay for the mess....

It's beyond me. Especially a royal suite. "I paid for it so I can do anything to it" mentality maybe? A bit like they treat domestic serf/vants back home.

A friend of mine told me that while working in a hotel in GVA, Arab guests would destroy the room and break everything, when checking out they basically pay for full refurbishment of the room
That sounds pretty made up stuff, heavily exaggerated at best

Having worked in the hotel industry for most of my working- life, I can assure you it does go on, and I'm talking of luxury hotels too.
I've been retired for quite a while, so can only assume it's got worse rather than better.
Not any particular nationality but just vandals generally.

When I had got pinched etc. It was not packed. These men do it all the time. At 11 at 14 at 16 at whenever.

And I am sorry, they were Arabs. It is known in Geneva.

flow - come to the Fetes de Geneve - it lasts for three weeks, lots of music, lots of funfair, lots of fireworks.

Do your homework before you ask me questions. By the way - i live in Geneva so i think i know a wee bit more than you.

The pushing and pinching goes on for about 2 months.
sorry? where did i say i know more than you? why so aggressive? i still dont get what you are saying, i was just asking.

and pinching arabs...how does that work?
they come straight to you and pinch you, just for fun?

This has been going on since the 80s. I grew up in Geneva.
You'd get groped and pinched in a crowd during the Fêtes de Genève. Don't wish to pin it on one nationality. It was quite upsetting.

Holy crap. This sort of thing used to happen to me when I studied abroad in Rome in my early 20s. Horrifying. I used to always try to find a place on the corner of the car of the metro so wandering hands couldn't catch me unawares. One time as we were going through a tunnel I realized some dude had his hand under my skirt. When I started to scream two old Italian ladies started to beat him with their purses. Complete BS.

Do you Geneva-ites think the city is turning a blind eye because these guys are rich or because it is difficult to enforce (or some other reason)?

I'm not a "Genevite", but considering that this is Switzerland
- A country full of high-level corruption
- You can be a murderer or a pedophile, but if you are rich...you don't have the worry. The Swiss will be happy to have you on their country (Polanski docet)
- Foreigners are hated, except whey they hide their wealth here...

I would expect that it's because they are rich...
You see...the SVP/UDC hates muslims...but if they are rich, they turn a blind eye on whatever they do. If they are poor, working-class but honest...they make their life horrible.

Exactly ! This is why I'm saying it can't be pinned on a nationality.
This stuff happens to young women in large cities when there's a special event (like a festival etc) involving large dense crowds.

Then maybe you should have been more careful with your choice of language and not say things like 'react with general tolerance.' I'm not the only one who interpreted it in this way.

And I don't think there is anything to understand. Yes their country and culture are different, and the women in their society even more so. But they would not behave like this in their own country, so why should they here?
It is NOT a "culture" matter but simply the result of them being citizens of a rich country which is a totalitarian theocratic dictatorship. And this means that they, when being outside, want to "play big boy" (in CH-German "d'Sau uuselaa"). And they of course are used that women when seeing a group of men approaching giving way and move to the side. Quite many of them here in Zürich for years had to learn the solid nature of the Shopping Bag of my mother. And her elbow.

Those Saudis also behave similarily in Cairo and Beirut and Amman and therefore are detested by the locals, in spite of the money the carry with them. That most of them tend to be heavily drunk in the evening adds to the mess

Re: Our Middle Eastern Guests in Geneva

I get this stuff a lot and it has got worse these past few years. The people who saw me at the ploughman's yesterday know that I dress feminine but not provocatively, and yet, just wearing a dress and heels with your lipstick matching your nails makes you fair game to people from other cultures. Well, I ignore words and all the weird noises they make to attract my attention but if anyone touches me, I punch/slap them in the face (depending on whether I'm wearing gloves or not) or kick them in the balls. I'm sick of feeling like I can't move around dressed like I want just because some morons just off the boat think that it's ok to behave that way. And it also saddens some of their countrymen who DO know how to treat a woman, whose mothers did a stellar job on raising them; they get chucked in the same pot.

I realise that my violent reaction will get me flak and that not every woman is six foot in heels with the physique of a night club bouncer to match but they must not get away with it any more. Sexual abuse of any kind is not to be tolerated and there must be consequences. If you think the police won't help you, at least cause the barsteward enough pain to condition him out of the behaviour.

Your reaction is quite correct. Correct in case they try to touch you in any way.
