Wow eight pages and the Fetes haven't even started yet!! I saw a few Bentleys or Rolls Royces driving around on Monday.
Theyre usually parked up on the lake front outside the Kempinski - never seen them get a ticket yet............

Re: Our Middle Eastern Guests in Geneva

Actually its 10 pages if you include the original post and the two pages that followed before it was brutally locked up! (reasons for which I have no idea) as the following 8 pages seem to prove the thread was worthwhile - care to comment ?

Then it might be better to preface the thread as being useless, pointless and stupid so allowing Effers the opportunity not to waste their valuable time, which is what seems to have irked you on this one.

The only thing that irked me about this sorry excuse for a thread is that you think this thread is worthwhile. From where I'm sitting it's just an excuse for people to be subtly racist and to force their prejudice on others.

There was absolutely no racism involved nor intended in the original post. In fact I resent being called a racist very much. Furthermore if you read every post in this thread you will notice that I have been at pains not to indentify a particular nationality on this problem ( a problem that reoccurs every year)
In fact to a large extent it is a critique of the authorities and money grabbing hotel and restaurant owners as to how they behave towards this problem.
It is a problem that is well recognized by those that live in Geneva, and I don`t think from where you are sitting (Neuchatel?) that you can either surmise racism nor should you. As I have already said, if you don`t believe this situation , then just come to town before you cast doubt on the testimony of those that have.

I never called you a racist. I said that there was subtle racism in this thread. You may have not identified a country, but some people have.

Why don't we come back to the original point of why this thread is worthwhile? What has been achieved by this thread? People have gotten some stuff off their chest? Great...I don't think that's worthwhile.

Critising the hotel and restaurant owners is like critising a farmer making hay while the sun shines mate. They all have families which they need feed.

Re: Our Middle Eastern Guests in Geneva

racism [ˈreɪsɪzəm], racialism [ˈreɪʃəˌlɪzəm]
1. (Sociology) the belief that races have distinctive cultural characteristics determined by hereditary factors and that this endows some races with an intrinsic superiority over others
2. (Sociology) abusive or aggressive behaviour towards members of another race on the basis of such a belief

criticism/ˈkritəˌsizəm/Noun
1. The expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes: "he ignored the criticisms of his friends".

Criticism of the behavior or culture of an individual/group of people is not the same as racism just because this group happens to be from a different race than the critic. People who are bothered by this yearly ''pinching'' have a right to complain and criticize the people who do it. Apparently the people who do it are from a foreign country which others have identified. So what?

I just don't get some people on here. If, after reading the first post, (or before, if you find the title unappealing), then why on earth do you persist in following and participating in it?

So you think I should just ignore anything I don't agree with and not bother to comment?

If I see someone having a heart attack on the street....ach...I don't find that very appealing...I think I will go home and have my tea and forget about it.

Easy: I think I am very open to different cultures - after all have I married someone from the other side of this planet, travelled a lot and have made friends from many cultures. Even for me are Arabs probably the most difficult to deal with culture - the biggest clash if you want, while I don't want to get into that discussion. I said Arabs, not Muslims, on purpose - I never had the same feeling with for example Indonesian or Malaysian.

I can honestly not call it racism if somebody critizises the culture for its latent sexism or general aggressiveness. That Saudis do not believe in gender equality is not some unfair generalization or discrimination... it's simply a fact. That rich Gulf Arabs love to show off their money and apparently believe they can buy anything with it is very well documented in countless of court cases from traffic violations to sexual harrassment - btw not only in Geneva but anywhere from Paris to London.

If this particular group of tourists regularly irritates me while I am more than used to having people from different cultures around me... I can imagine what impression they make on the less international part of the locals. Their values and attitude is as far away from the Protestant Swiss values as it can get.

P.S: I find it funny that some user complain about discrimination on this thread and just yesterday trashed Swiss men with sweeping generalizations based on the Nationality... double standards anyone?

Come off it Porsch, you have every right to disagree with some of the posts in a thread, but to protest the very existence of a Complaints thread? You're not too shy in creating them yourself.

From what I see, grumpy has a legitimate complaint about a select group of individuals who are behaving inappropriately in his home town and the authorities are doing precious little to address it, because of the financial benefits they bring. If that isn't worthy of a complaint thread, I don't know what is; no hot water, lack of price matching, or horrible people in general, perhaps?

Like I've said already, I don't claim that any of my posts aren't complete and utter tosh. In fact I think every single one of my posts are complete crap.

Equally I think this thread isn't worthwhile like grumpygit claims it is worthwhile. It strikes me as a thread ciritising a whole type of person (is middle eastern a race?) for the actions of a few. I don't have the stats but does every middle eastern person who comes to Geneva act like this?

The original post by grumpygit uses phrases like 'this lot' and 'these people'. It also made no mention of the fete in the original post and critised all middle eastern people who come to visit Geneva.

I guess my use of the word racism isn't correct because 'middle east' isn't really a race.

Re: Our Middle Eastern Guests in Geneva

I think the people of Geneva should start a "Hug a Habib" programme, to show these swarthy infidels the proper, loving European way of doing things.

When Fahrad al-Jibbijabbi parks his Rolls Royce on your balcony, festoon his wing mirrors with daisy chains and roses and leave sweetmeats on the bonnet.

When Abdullah al-Habbubbihubbahubba pinches your wife's bottom, embrace him as a brother, shower him with rose petals and invite him back for a threesome.

When Faisal al-Shabbahabbashubbashubba is rude to your servants, beat them mercilessly, cast their bodies into the lake and prostrate yourself at his feet, licking them gently and lovingly, like a spaniel.

If we cannot show these poor benighted Moors love, how can we expect them to show love to others?

Let us lead by example: Hug a Habib today!
