There was a case in Basel a while a go where 2 ticket inspectors got on the tram. Sitting at the back of the tram were 2 coloured guys. The inspectors starting speaking with each other in close proximity to the guys saying a lot of racial stuff (not to the 2 men but between each other) this went on for a while with them using the F and N words repeatedly. They then went to the two guys and asked them for their tickets. One of them went to his pocket to get his ticket and he pulled out a Basel Poleizi badge. The 2 guys were cops, the ticket inspectors were arrested and taken off the tram to a cheer from the other passengers.

Just shows what type of people are doing these inspector jobs and how clueless some of them can be. They deserve everything the get.
Every human above the age of 6 in Switzerland has has a phone with video capabilities and this didn't get recorded. I would have loved to see the look on the inspector's faces!

You mean those inspectors were speaking English to each other? There's no such F-word in Baseldytsch, not even in Standard German. And the cops arrested them on the spot because of using bad language? Come on. This is not Alabama. That story very much smells like an urban legend.
you're probably right Cptn. GB, but please let us have this fantasy!

Re: ruthless ticket inspector

Sounds like a reasonable resolution. And a very Swiss one, where everyone saves face and you save a fine on your record. I'm glad your persistence paid off, at least you got a fair hearing.

Let's hope you avoid further trouble and always carry some form of ID.

At least on this in CH the authorities are reasonably flexible: Passport, National ID card, Swiss license, Permit, works ID (I've had Swedish friends cross the border with Swedish driving licenses ...before they were EU ID cards valid outside the Nordic union... and Swisscom works ID).

Re: ruthless ticket inspector

I've heard of Cumulus Cards being accepted in the place of a lost passport in some airports.

Cheers,
Nick

Special Offer this week: Entry to Switzerland for 5000 Cumulus points. Alternatively, get 5x Superpunkte at Coop on the day you enter the country and have your Supercard scanned by Customs.
