It's stopped raining up here and the clouds have lifted (allowing a little sunshine through) but at the same time exposing the snow that fell overnight down to about 1800m - which makes it feel even colder than it actually is.

This weather's good for the garden - and gives me an excuse not to do anything in it - so I can go kite flying, to recharge by batteries, after a busy week.

This is the worst summer since I moved here.. We had a few good days in spring, and a couple (2) sunny and hot summer weekends, the rest is all rain and coldness. Hate it! My hope is that autumn will be summery.

My duck breeding business has never been so busy. I'm getting calls from all over Europe looking for rare specimens, those ducklings love all the puddles and can't get enough of the rain.
Just joking, it's really a duck-billed platypus stud farm... |

It has been a brutal summer, but the spring was amazing.--it was more than a 'few days' it was almost 2 months of great weather. I swam in the limmat in March because it was so hot.
But again I agree, the last couple weeks have been utter garbage. I Need sun and hot weather in the summer--gonna have to head back to Canada | This user would like to thank Chemmie for this useful post: | |

Some people seem to have a very short memory. Just a few weeks ago, the country was longing for some rain, brooks dry, lake levels very low, high danger of forest fires etc.. Now we are getting the rain, somewhat belated delivery, but such is life. Granted, it's vacation time for many people, but if they want to be on the safe side they have to book a place in the Sahara anyway.

Our secretary heard on the radio last week that the summer should come back towards the middle of August. It's great news but I have to say, I'll believe it when I see it...

It's not hot (20-22?) but it's lovely and sunny in Basel today.

My coworker normally takes his vacation in August. Due to the bad weather in August the past few years he decided this year to take his vacation in July. He'll be back at work on the 2nd, which is just after the sun returns.

As I said a bit higher up, there is nothing unusual about this weather at this time of year. It happened last year at exactly the same time - I was on a hiking holiday in Glarnerland/Berner Oberland and remember it all too well.
We had hardly any precipitation at all from January to May this year, we really need this rain. And next week looks like it's going to be better .

I take days off when it's nice, and work when it's not.
Works for me!

He stays home for the summer vacation and takes a few day trips with the family. | | | | | But he might rather extend his spectrum. I mean very often when the weather is lousy around Luzern/Zürich/etc, it is acceptable to good either in the Alsace/Elsass, or around the Lake of Geneva or in the Ticino. I on one-day trips go as far as Strassburg, or Annecy or Milano. It works by both car and train. The regional topography here around is bad and good at the same time. An old schoolfriend of me who lives on the Luzernersee often on weekends checks the weather-charts and sometimes simply goes (back) to Zürich where they are share-owners of a house in Adliswil or over to Locarno where his aunt (youngish 86 or 87 or 88) owns an apartment.
And it does not depend on age or on access to a car. An aunt of me used to make one-day-travels out of Stein-am-Rhein to Geneva, Lugano etc, and even a month before her end made a day trip from Stein-am-Rhein to Neuenburg-Neuchâtel, Geneva, Lausanne, Brig, Interlaken, Luzern and Zürich, and much enjoyed it.
So that I think the man should become more flexible |
