IKEA: It's worse than crack!

How is it that I went to IKEA today with the intention of doing nothing more than dropping off a ton of recycling, yet came home with CHF67- worth of crap I don't need, plus two hotdogs and a cola that my waistline doesn't need?

What do they put in the hotdogs to make you throw all judgment and willpower out the window?

Re: IKEA: It's worse than crack!

I so want to mod this, especially the title, but for the sake of objectivity ...

I love them! The dogs and the meat balls. And, have you checked out the fine tasting plastic curry/mayo you can have your hotdog swim in? Just wait till you have a kiddo who plays there, can be left at the drop in playgroup, and actually eats the food. Their fish paste is our staple in our fridge.

Ikea rocks. The furniture is not supposed to last decades, the food is not supposed to be culinary miracles, what would one expect for a miniscule price tags, anyways, than a bit of fun, some things are actually quite well made, if you have an eye for details. Fabric, especially the flax, has served me well for my creations. It's spacious, people do not actually sit at your table at the resto and pretend it is normal, their salads and baby food that's healthy and you can heat up on spot, nursing corner, changing tables at men's WC, heaven. And, they have plants one can cheaply purchase should they need to replace the dead ones.

Only one gripe, please, IKEA playgroup folks, do not use regular ink in the stamp pad when stamping human hands. Thank you.

Yes, we've discovered this. There's something of a tradition around Casa Idiot -- every summer, we're asked to look after our neighbour's place when they're away, and every summer, we manage to kill just about anything green in the house. So there's an annual outing to replace everything that we've managed to kill in their absence.

Luckily they're better with our cats than we are with their plants. Or they've got an uncanny knack at picking replacements and we just haven't caught on yet.

Re: IKEA: It's worse than crack!

Survived a trip to Ikea myself today. Was rather impressed with their beef steak and chips and veg for 14 CHF. However returned home with a life-sized golden retriever. It isn't stuffed very well so it flops over in a permanent 'had one too many drinks' heap on the floor. The dog looks rather put out. WHY did I buy that?!?

Not only did the Swedes invent Ikea, but they are also behind the Millennium series. Now this staff was pure crack.

Ahh, that solves the "what shall we call it" dilemma. Seeing as it is unlikely to run away and need it's name screamed it public, we shall call him Glop.

You're user name has done you proud again buddy.

As a food nazi, I don't eat sausages anyway, but if I did, do you have to assemble them yourself from like a pen full of pigs and some suitable knives attached to a magnetic strip by the side?

I clearly UNDERestimated their ability to sell crap to expats .... and your waistline for sure is not a concern of them or me !

Re: IKEA: It's worse than crack!

I go to IKEA knowing that I'm going for the large plate of french fries with the all you can eat mayonaise + ketchup combo. Oh and don't forget the bill when I get out of the place...anything under 100CHF and I'm going back to pick some random thing up because I think it's some kind of crime to leave the place without it being that high...

...And just think...in 2 more months I'm moving even closer to the addiction

By the entrance, IKEA has bins for cardboard/paper, light bulbs, batteries, and most importantly, for the odd plastic stuff nobody else will take, like styrofoam and the plastic bags that gadgets and whatnot are packed in inside the box. I'm trying to think if there's anything IKEA won't take, other than maybe used cooking oil.

(Mind you, for where I live, it's easier to go to the local recycling center, which truly takes everything. Including gross used oil.)

Are you writing in english? If so, I must go back to the books cause I've read your post 5 times and still dont understand 25% of the words

To VI, I used to live 200m from there and sometimes, happy lunch time those months. The stuff they have in the Fungrube (little room outside) has some great deals. Sometimes the things has minimal scratches and they sell it like for 10% of actual value.... sometimes
Also, once we were in the restaurant and they were giving everybody a coupon worthed the total amount of your food consumption ie, your family spent 30chf in restaurant, ok, then is 30chf less you will pay on the furniture you buy.
