I am just trying to see a store in Saudi Arabia have a Christmas or Hanukkah specials.

Yes it is stupid but no, it is not exclusive to Christian rednecks.
In Saudi Arabia both would be illegal.

Governments tend to be the largest buyers of media in any market - the UK government is always the number 1 or no 2 buyer of media in any year, let alone an election year.

Apart from that - not really sure how to interpret your idea.....no political statements in place that may be seen by the public ??
I am sorry if I was not clear on this .What I mean is ,on property which belongs to the general public.

Yes, my point was that there is a crowd that gets hyper excited anytime anything happens anywhere in the universe that could be considdered to be the smallest concievable slight to Islam. I was trying to point out through the non-subtle use of sarcasm that this sort of behaviour happens with all crackpots (sorry, religeous people).

Let me clarify:

Expats come from the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Australia or New Zealand.

Immigrants come from Eastern and Southern Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Germany.

Simples.
There is also a third category:

Foreigners: anybody anywhere on the planet who is not English.

I may be an expat but I'm not a foreigner. See?

An expatriate (in abbreviated form, expat) is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of the person's upbringing or legal residence. The word comes from the Latin term expatriātus from ex ("out of") and patriā the ablative case of patria ("country, fatherland"), from Greek Exo (outside) and Patrida (Fatherland, Country).

immigrant (plural immigrants) - A person who comes to a country from another country in order to permanently settle in the new country.

The difference over here being for many of us the opposite of the Americanisation is that expats may want to head home at some stage but immigrants are there to permanently settle.
I recall an editorial in the Tagi some years ago where the writer was musing over the difference and concluded that the two are essentially interchangeable but the words are used for different purposes: The word immigrant is used to conjure up a poor person in rags who fled from the claws an evil bloodthirsty dictatorship, crossed the alps in a rickety capsizing boat and is hence worthy of our greatest sympathy, whereas an expat is a rich and highly educated obnoxious barsteward with hooves and horns who crossed the Rhine in an A380 in business class has come purely to take people's jobs.

In reality, the two groups are not so clearly distinct and many people are a bit of both.

That is awesome dude!!!

Anyway that definitly means I am a immigrant then. I escaped the British government, came here on a BA plane that did not even have a jet engines and got out just before the rioting. Now, where is that queue for the sympathy? Oh, bugger, they don't queue here? SCRUM!!!

I wrote to SBB;

I just received a reply;

"Try a different forum then."

Well, absolutely off-topic, but search for Pietro Caminada.. he tried to, or at least had a vision to do exactly that (with goods instead of people), but on a grand scale.

Re: Complain to the SBB about the posters

Just to put some perspective behind this. There was an article in TagesAnzeiger a couple of weeks ago looking at the budget each political party has for the upcoming elections. Turns out that 65% of ALL the money from ALL the parties sits with SVP... (15million SFR) So you can probably expect a few more nasty, tasteless posters around in the next few months.

Indeed.

When I moved here, I figured for two years, give or take. And perhaps if I hadn't moved south, it would have ended up that way.

But, 25 years on, I'm still here.

Seriously? Is it just kissing or do they take it further? I mean, potentially that explains some of the idiocy? Perhaps a genetic survey of SVP hardcore members to detect any bovine cross breeding would be a good idea?
Would it hurt you to think before you write crap? Personally I don't mind that much the puns targeted at SVP - but this piece of mind shows clearly that, any minute, you're capable to draw similar conclusions on other citizens here. You have surpassed the level of offensiveness displayed by the party you're accusing, job well done.

"stop massive xenophobia"

Hi
About the posters...it is again a well designed piece of graphic...but shockingly provocating..
I would suggest to replace one WORD:

instead of "stop massive immigration"
remplace by
"stop massive xenophobia"

Another link I found about the subject:

Yes it would. Perphas a little read of my signature and or other posts would help and give you and idea that a sense of humour is a vital thing to obtain before reading any of my posts.

Thanks, praise is always appreciated!!! At least it shows that some people even read the (what did you call it...oh yes) crap that I write. At least I don't espouse it as a political philosophy.

P.S. Some advise....join the general Swiss philosophy that many of my friends have and with me now.... 1. Take a deep breath. 2. Let it out slowly. 3. Repeat. 4. Relax. Better?

The SBB has asked the advertising company behind the SVP advertising campaign to tone it down a bit (article in German).
