Honestly, passion and emotion are two different things for me. I can be emotional about something (rasist posters and how much I hate them) and passionate about something else (freedom of speech) and not let the two of them cross over. Passion in government is okay but emotion, nope. By the way, are you not supposed to be lying in the sun? | | | | | I was and it was great!
I don't think you can be passionate without emotion, I don't see how it is possible, really.

I could be passionate about logic for instance without it having anything to do with emotions.

30% of this country are foreigners. They may be there for the cash, but they are also there because the country needs them. | | | | | And more than likely they need Switzerland's cash... | Quote: | | | | | If you campaign for parlement seats, yes ok, I agree with you. You can pass a message but racism and discrimination should not be acceptable in this society. Freedom of speech, no matter what? No thanks, I don't agree that everything is good to say. Would it be acceptable if tomorrow morning I put posters saying black people stinks, let's kick them out? Or Nazi was right to kill Jewish, let's kick them out?
Do you still believe it is my right to do it? And in the law to protect those posters to not be put down, or teared?
Freedom of speech is a precious right. But it should be used with respect for other human being.
To call someone an idiot is something, but to make racist comments against a group of people for their origines, cultures and skin color is not a freedom of speech one should aspire to. | | | | | No the SVP is much more intelligent than that. If a group put up a poster as you suggested than they would be idiots.
And if Switzerland is so xenophobic why do you want to return to Switzerland so badly? You're over in Spain dreaming of the day you can return to Switzerland. What you're writing doesn't make sense for someone who wants to return to a country that they claim is against immigrants. Apparently you must of had a nice life in Switzerland as you want to return so badly. Countries need to control their immigration. Switzerland gives their people a vote concerning their immigration policies which is fair. When countries ignore the native population then there's going to be trouble, like a few countries is having now. Natives of their countries pay taxes too not just the foreigners who come in. Switzerland is on such a grand scale that anyone who wants to leave can go, there are many others who want to get in. In today's world people want to live in a country who sticks by their values, where they feel a certain amount of security, where it's orderly and protected. These are some of the things Switzerland offers. Is this why you miss Switzerland and want to return? You want to strip them of one of the very things that makes them so great-their democracy.

I'm sorry, but if you are a member of this site, the "English Forum", I'm assuming you are not Swiss. Doesn't that make you an immigrant? | Quote: | | | | | The latest one isn't even that bad. I think we can all agree that lots of immigration for the sake of it isn't a good thing

It doesn't make sense to me to say: "lots of immigration for the sake of it isn't a good thing". Especially if you are an immigrant yourself.
Migrating to another country, makes you an immigrant. Therefore you are hurting yourself to by turning away immigration. Just an opinion. My opinion! | Quote: | | | | | Your point or are you suggesting that immigrants are not allowed opinions?

Yes. I'm referring to the quote by Porsch1909...
Quote: The latest one isn't even that bad. I think we can all agree that lots of immigration for the sake of it isn't a good thing
If I have misunderstood the point. I'm just asking for some clarity from Porsch1909 or from anyone that thinks in the same manner. | Quote: | | | | | Are you quoting someone?

Expats come from the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Australia or New Zealand.
Immigrants come from Eastern and Southern Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Germany.

Or expats are coming because of a job and immigrants are moving for a better life.

Thank you for explaining the difference as to who are Expats and who are immigrants. But because Expats are coming from another country, that to me still makes you an immigrant.
Its just my understanding. Since my family are from another country and I, born and raised in the States - we are still viewed as immigrants. | Quote: | | | | Let me clarify:

As per the IRS, ex-pats are those who have given up their US citizenship or green card, and are no longer US taxpayers.
So, in the legal sense, I am an ex-pat, unlike most on this forum.
And, I am also an immigrant.

Isn't this tsunami in a soup bowl thread not pointing out the most blatantly obvious failure so far?
That being that the other Swiss political parties haven't got a clear message or policy to get over or simply that their ad agencies are crap and lackluster?
Politics is nothing more than assembling your priorities in a different order than the next bunch. The SVP go for immigration, non-EU membership and farming subsidies. The FDP are there to support businesses and cover the right of center stuff that the SVP kind of do too, but much gentler. The others kind of hang around the center, juggling their priorities depending on the temperature of the day and anyway the wind blows and then the socialists and greens do what they do best. Go figure out your priorities and emphasize those factors when you vote. It's called democracy and it's been working pretty well in this fair land that we call home for quite a while now.
