Much needed vacay, away from Switzerland.

Guten morgen!

What`s a better way to start the morning than a set of complaints?

Cashiers dont help you bag groceries or weigh the fruits/veggies.
No AC on buses.
No AC in the apartment.
No AC in the hospital (I really miss my AC)

I cannot wait for my vacation to start in 2 weeks!!!
Going back to the US to indulge myself with shellfishes, shopping, and the awesome-ness of the AC.

You can do the bagging yourself...its no biggie.
Buses have AC. Most of them anyways.
Apartments don't need an ac since its only recently that it started to get really hot. Most of the year is quite cool. And besides, you can install your own if you would be so inclined.
Most of them do. If they really need it.

Re: Much needed vacay, away from Switzerland.

We've waited so long for this weather.... I don't dare complain now that we got it. I'm not a big fan of AC myself because it's usually too cold for my taste.

Enjoy your US AC vacation. It will be here before you know it.

Re: Much needed vacay, away from Switzerland.

Thanks Olygirl, I definitely need to be recharged. Being around family and friends again will be nice.

Hope everyone is keeping cool in this hot weather (I heard it is going to end this weekend?). You may lose your cool, but please do not lose your sense of humor

Fans are worse. A lod of hot air. Settle for the Dyson space fan contraption. Seriously awesome and fun to stare at while you try to figure out just how it is providing so much cool air without blades

Not really. (LOL at the name)

An AC is much better for cooling.

I am not a big fan of FANS but I saw the commercial on TV for the Dyson bladeless fan and totally want one!
Now the question is which arm and leg to chop off to get one?

Cooling effect? Yes.
A bit depending on how hot it actually is
+how small the space is
+how many people are in the space
+what kind of ventilation is available
+if there is direct sunlight etc...

Better than an AC. No.

My son has one of those in London and it's wonderful and worth every penny. Just wish I could find one in Lausanne.

Re: Much needed vacay, away from Switzerland.

Recipe for joy last night:

- Old overclocked PC with inadequate heatsink on - CHECK
- iMac on playing a movie - CHECK
- 30+C temps outside - CHECK
- Steam iron on - CHECK
- Cash or - CHEQUE
- Nationality of Ivan Lendl - CZECH

Scrap the last 2 - but the first 4 combined to create a Bombay summer of humid happiness.

I survived - and the pile of ironing has been halved

Maybe I will be the crazy passenger that carries the thing on to the plane. Ok, maybe also depends on how big it is.

Re: Much needed vacay, away from Switzerland.

Yeah, it's not so much the heat and humidity, it's the deadly still air without a breeze for miles. If you're sweating, a breeze feels ever so nice but without A/C and without a breeze, it's just a sweltering misery. Fans will at least keep you comfortable if not cool.

I'm not a big fan of A/C either, even having grown up in one of the parts of the US where it's A/C or die in the summertime but here where there's little relief to be found, it's a bit less tolerable. Last year, in July, it was something like 96F+ in Helsinki and Stockholm where there really isn't A/C *anywhere* and I damn near passed out in a grocery store as it must have been well over 100F in there without any circulating air.
