Re: So what if I like ice??

Well, good thing the weather forecast is predicting a temperature drop by the weekend. But, of course, the American in me will have to complain that 20 degrees is just TOOO cold

Ah, High-speed diesel...how I miss thee.

Still prefer Tribute though - such an all-rounder. And I'm a huge Skinners fan.
I drink a ridiculous amount of ale when I go home. Obscene!

Are you a Cornish ale connoisseur?

Our floods aren't just limited to summer time! Unfortunately it seems to be all year thing now...

I hate ice. Here in the US when you buy a coke it is 3/4 ice and a top up of coke- although refills are often free, I don't like my stuff diluted.

I'm not huge on ice either.. I also rarely drink soda, so I don't have to worry about that nasty warm soda flavor!

I'm sure that drinking ice cold stuff all the time can't be great for your insides, either.

So you follow it up with a nice hot coffee/tea to balance things out

There's no physiological reason why it should harm you at all. It will soon warm up to near body temperature very soon anyway.

actually it would be bad for you if you have gallbladder problems as cold liquids can stimulate gall bladder movement :S

It's actually unpleasant for me to drink really super-chilled cold drinks. Cold is one thing but ice cold with extra ice gives me brain-freeze and hurts my teeth. Plus the taste of the drink is lost AND the extra ice dilutes the drink anyway (as was pointed out earlier) so you are forced to drink it smartish or you end up with watered down coke then the whole brain-freeze, teeth on-edge thing kicks in.

Maybe not harmful but not an experience I'd want to part with money for.

Well, we like our drinks cold in hot weather. And, the 1/2 gal probably still cost less than a 33ml bottle here.

Diet coke is not very palatable when warm and what I don't get is why a lot of places like the coop prontos even bother with refrigeration since the open coolers do nothing to actually cool those bottles of soda, especially since the bottles are plastic and not glass. Back in the heartland where it's like the current weather all summer long, you can often go to a 7-11 or its equivalent and find a giant tub filled with ice and cold, really cold, drinks. It's a life saver on a blisteringly hot summer day. I mean, it's not like we're suggesting putting ice in white wine or some other sort of blasphemy....
I don't know on what side I should be on - I love massive, cold drinks with loads of ice but I also like to make fun of Americans.

That said, I often drink white wine with ice in summer.

If I could ever be bothered to get annoyed with anything I'm sure I'd be annoyed with generalizations & ice. I hate both of them.

Why not? CH pubs always give you a too warm Weizen, so I just ask for some icecubes to put in, get some funny looks too.
