Oooo-kay - then an avatar really shouldnt bother you then!

And for the record, I dont care what Zuger uses as his avatar, as long as he keeps his profile picture. Go look, ladies!

PS Zuger, nice shoulders!
I find that offensive TBH. I think he should change his profile picture because it offends me.
Otherwise I will post one of me and I may be above all that malarky but at least then we will be EVEN!
I m not the kind of person to be provoked but really! this time im feeling really provoked!
By the way, have we hijacked somebody elses`very serious thread here, or was that earlier ??

I hated selecting my new avatar just to make people feel how do i feel
I've not read beyond the first post here as yet so I don't know if this may have been covered...

As a Christian I find no offense in that avatar.
Shortly after the Danish cartoon incident a Muslim coworker came in quite outraged and asked me "what if I put up an offensive picture of Jesus" (again I don't find the wanted poster offensive )
I replied I would be offended but I wouldnt need to kill you over it.

just as n.b... one of the best depictions IMO of JC is "the laughing Christ" done it it's many different forms.

In the words of that great humanitarian Rodney King "why can't we all just get along?"

Because it is showing a muslim with a bomb. I hate the terrorists. They should be punished. But to show pictures like that makes us, normal people look like them.

You don't have to understand that, you don't even have to accept it, but for your friends, co-forumers, etc. you could respect it.

And no offense hon, but do you think posting pictures that could be offensive to black people is ok on the forum? Just because a few idiots want to stoop to that level it shouldn't mean a respected member like you gets dragged into doing the same crap as them.

I dont know if this should be in complaint corner but i am offended by the new avatar selected by a forum member Zuger
Maybe you should try to learn one of the basis of our culture:
Laďcité is a concept denoting the absence of religious involvement in government affairs as well as absence of government involvement in religious affairs.

So first, posting your thing to get someone to do something about it is not appropriate here. (yes, because you did not want to attract attention of a mod, then i'm Jesus Christ).

Our societies are based on respect for freedom of thought and freedom of religion. If you can respect that, then maybe it's time to go back to another country where government are punishing people for making cartoons?

PS: I could see through both your cartoons (the bomb and the wanted) and I see much more than an offending source...

Maybe we should post the coordinates of the offender and bomb him, what do you think? Is that more appropriate?

You missed my point Nil. I was referring to his comments on receiving negative rep, nothing to do with muslims or religion.

I have great respect for anyone's beliefs, however I do not think playing fire with fire is the way to resolve it. I understand you being offended with the avatar and the way you handled in your thread it was mature and not inciteful. This dude just wants to wind up a relgious argument between members. That is why I made any comments I made.
Where were you when it was time to stand up for your friend? It is not your ''battle'' so you don't care?

I brang a point and it was left blank. If you have respect for your friends who are offended, you stand up for them.

It is not just a picture, it is what it represents!

Should I put a Neger for sale avatar just for the sake of freedom of speech?

Where are the limits of this forum? Hey, as long as it doesn't bother me, why should I care, right?

It is a shame really. We are far away of the hugs, supports and caring of the few weeks back, aren't we?

I put picture not in response of his, but to show if it would be acceptable to use them as avatars.

I start with a base amount of respect for all humans. It then goes up or down based on how stupid their beliefs are. Respect has to be earned

Steady on Nil! Of course I support you but what could I add to your thread that you hadn't already said. You addressed the mod's with your concerns and it is now in their hands if they choose to act or not.

As I said, I understand that it could be offensive for some of our members but do you think that the OP coming along with the tone of his posts has helped the point you were trying to make?

As I said before, your thread was adult, rational and not aimed to cause scraps between members....exactly what this thread is achieving

degravesst has made some interesting contributions
Re: Selecting Avatars

I am relatively new to this forum but as I understand the modus operandi of Zuger, it is

1. Post some comment which is mildly offensive to a particular group (Albanians, Serbs, Muslims,...err... can't be bothered to check any further than the last 48 hours, sorry)

2. When challenged, use standard excuses
"You have no sense of humour"
"I'm just giving the Swiss perspective"
"It wouldn't be racist if I said that about Americans"

3. Display a surprisingly thin skin when criticised.

I am not a Muslim but I think the avatar is provocative. Which is exactly what Zuger seems to spend all his time doing.

?????? Calm down hun.

Let me play devils advocate here - but for the record, I totally get your point about finding Zuger's avatar offensive etc.

If we want to talk about offensive/controversial avatars, there are a couple that might be to others: for example breasts squashed in a pair of headphones. DB was right when he said that you should uncheck the "show avatar" option if it some offend you but I believe that your response was that it takes away the fun. Cant have your cake and eat it.

Now go out and have a walk on the beach for bit because I suspect that avatar isnt going to be changed for quite some time.

To my mind everyone 'earns' the full amount of respect one has to offer from the beginning and you have to adjust later on, if expectations aren't met...

Isn't that what respect is all about?

No but maybe it will pass the message to the mods who don't seems to care enough for those members of this religion who could feel very offended by it.

Just Sayin'

I am relieved to know that ifI want, I could put those pictures knowing I have the freedom to do so on this forum, no matter how insulting it could be.

Why would you be insulted?
It's pictures of an other area, century. With bad things.

Look:

Are you going to be insulted by that?

Your poster is part of history. An horrible one, yes, but "we" (=human beings) have evolved (not that I feel guilty of the abuse of others). Maybe it's time for you to evolve and see other things? Like historical picture, like memo, reminder on how things were, like abuses of humans beings in general, etc...
