Invited for an interview and then forgotten

I received a phone call for a job interview and we had a good talk. The lady said that she would e-mail me a confirmation for an interview. She never did, and of course, I didn't save her number on my phone! Long story short, the interview was supposed to be, well, NOW, and I have no way of contacting her and she has not contacted me either so I'm assuming she has just completely forgotten about it. Great!

Is the complaint about her, or about you?

Re: Invited for an interview and then forgotten

dont you know which company it is? I mean you applied didnt you? and normally they have a general phone number so you could call there and have them transfer you to HR (or if you remember the lady's name to her directly), also, when was the call? I assume it was a few days ago and you notice NOW that you are missing vital information? In my eyes you are also to blame for missing the interview, sorry but it is also part of your responsibility to know where you have to be when.

Did you check your email junk folder?

I agree with the poster above that you could call the company's main line and outline your issue - they would at least put you through to HR or the relevant department.

Lack of initiative will probably be a minus against you, unfortunately.

Her name was Aurelie but other than that I don't remember anything else! I apply to a lot of jobs so I can't really remember all the applications. Her number was saved in my caller ID but I had to turn off my phone for some reason and it erased all the saved numbers after that so yeah I guess that was a stupid move too. I have noticed that I was missing all the info needed to get to that interview but she did tell me she would send me an email with all the info.

I thought that too, but why even schedule an interview?

I can send you some spare paper, some pens and a user manual for them, if that would help you in future?...

Re: Invited for an interview and then forgotten

I had something similar earlier in the year when looking for a job. I was contacted by the person scheduling the interviews and as I couldn't make the date she proposed she said she would see if the next day was possible and confirm by e-mail. I didn't realise she hadn't replied until a couple days before the interview and I could only remember her first name. So I just called the company and explained to the person who answered the problem and she thought she knew who I meant. But if I had been relying on her confirmation to remind of the interview I would never have remembered it. I didn't get that job so now I'm here in Switzerland!

Did the girl work for a recruitment company or the actual company which was hiring?

Re: Invited for an interview and then forgotten

Responding to a lot of interviews is one thing, most of us went though that. It is hard to keep track, when they call and their english is bad / Your german is bad, BUT - if somebody schedules an interview with You, meaning You passed most intensive filtering in hiring process, doesn't this add some importance points to it?
Sorry but this will probably be just a good life lesson for You. Would You hire someone who doesn't come to an interview and doesn't bother to investigate possible communication issues when they appear?

Re: Invited for an interview and then forgotten

Applying for jobs 101

Keep a list (paper/pen, spreadsheet) of which jobs, the contacts, their details and any additional information.

You could also add the date you called them, the date they called back, and also add a reminder date to chase them.

It's not rocket surgery

I investigated, believe me, and found no trace of that person nor of the job that she had mentioned. Of course this would have been much simpler had she sent me the confirmation email she promised along with the details of the venue, job, etc.

Re: Invited for an interview and then forgotten

It was a test.

If you managed to track her down, you deserved the interview.

If not.........

You may have misunderstood the title of this thread. When I say 'interview forgotten', I didn't mean it was me who forgot

It is very important to follow up with them. It's just as important to be memorable. To stand out from the crowd, consider sending an e-mail containing this link.

We discussed the job and then agreed to meet and it was at this point that she said she would send me the details (she didn't). She didn't mention the company though so I assumed she was from an employment agency. Which one? I forgot, I tend to forget French names a lot.
