I used to work for some Swiss in England.

All they ever did was moan, incessantly, about how crap the country was.
Well, they had a point and you've warmly embraced and compounded the issue by recreating the essence of their beliefs on this very site with your "England is crap" thread.

Re: Hate the foreigner who rant all the time..

Hate those kind of people. This is quite simple, you don't like it, just leave... That's what I've done, twice. When I see myself ranting and complaining too much about what's going on in a country, I just leave... I got bored and tired of Spain, I left. Four years in Ireland, I got sick of it, I left.

At the moment I'm happy in Switzerland. I love it... but if things start bugging me, instead of complaining, I'll leave (hopefully that won't happen :-P)

Another Swiss sycophancy thread I am very happy that the OP is happy with their lot, but some are not and certainly within the confines of the Complaints Corner they are entitled to rant.

Hi All

Rant about the rant. Some how I am surrounded by people in office who are mostly auslanders and keep ranting about things here and there around them. It is always in Switzerland it this is crapy and that is shit or I don't like this etc.

It goes right from being expensive (I pay so much food or for rent or for xyz service), people (like cold, not open etc), systems (people complaining about ticket collectors to government office etc), shopping (again expensive, no choices) etc etc.

After living here long enough I feel those people just need to chill a little bit. It is like complaining why do most of the people go to Pub after office in London or who do people eat Indian bread and curry all the time in India. People taking one incidence based on experience with an individual and blowing it out of proportion. Guy who sits next to me (South American) complains about fruits being bad and wanted to discuss why he doesn't want his kids to learn Swiss German. Because it is useless..

Point is Switzerland is expensive but jobs here at generic level pay you more than in UK, US, China, India (Again I think pays after certain level like 200K+ is about same everywhere adjusting PPP but..). It is a much smaller market (Size of NY or London) so offcourse it doesn't offer large variety. I am glad you don't have choices to buy Eggs in 24s, 48 and 72s .

Expecting Swiss to eat Oriental, India, Polish or Hungarian is like going and wondering who all the Indians eat Chapati or rice everyday. When one guy in coop or in train is bad then how can the whole country be like that.

If you feel it is very expensive and you can't save much then you didn't negotiated a good deal or you don't know how to manage your budget. So bad luck.

To me the place is still very good to live, people are friendly when you know them, people are very generous and helping generally as well as on the road, it is a safe place, very multicultural in terms of food, cloths and respecting other, great place to make money as well..

Cheers
We all in general love Switzerland, but we're not from here, some things are different and sometimes we feel either lost or we just maybe miss home...

What I'm trying to say is, don't take our (the foreigners) rant and complaining so serious, sometimes we just need to complain about things like we did back home...it's just human nature...

I love Switzerland and don't want to leave, ever, but I have to disagree - it's not always that simple. Just cos you don't like it in a given place doesn't mean there are necessarily jobs elsewhere. Even if there are jobs in theory, it doesn't mean you'll get one of them, and even if you get one, there's no guarantee you're actually escaping... This time three years ago, we were within one week of departure (contracts signed, packing started etc.) and the company we were going to went bankrupt! They did offer us the opportunity to experience the German dole instead but my husband thought going on the dole in a new country with a three-year-old and a heavily pregnant wife might not be as enjoyable as living here.

Re: Hate the foreigner who rant all the time..

I hope I know where the OP is coming from. See, sometimes is like this: you have a nice day. It just started fine and dandy. Your Swiss neighbour smiled at you, your Swiss boss was incredibly polite and friendly, you feel good. Out of the blue comes this foreigner and starts telling you how much is she fed up with this country, the Swiss neighbours, the gemeinde..the universe. You still try to keep your well deserved good mood, try to change the subject...try to point out that there are still good things here, life's still good, etc. You can't, the rant is going on and on. Your good mood has already turned into...never mind.
Conclusion: if you see someone with a smile on his face who seems to enjoy that day, don't start ranting about Switzerland. It will backfire on EF.

Re: Hate the foreigner who rant all the time..

Comparing, discussing, the more the better. A good rant, from time to time- no problem and quite normal. I'm Swiss and I often have a moan and miss many things from the UK. And vice versa. But some people's constant negative whining is, well, a bit much- although here, in the complaints corner, fair enough.

I've worked in several places where staff spent 90+% of their time whining about everything - but when I suggested to them maybe a change might do them a power of good- got all defensive and just refused to move off their backsides- and just stayed there, for the next 30 years, moaning. These constantly negative people sap all your energy honest. I ended up moving job myself, just to get away from their constant griping.

Re: Hate the foreigner who rant all the time..

Okay Guys

My point is not about the people who rant on genuine ranting kind of stuff. There certainly is a segment of people who like to just rant.

Like I am afraid that my kids will learn Swiss German and it is a useless language. My point of view is you have to have a foundation language which is German, Swiss German or any other and on top of that whatever you learn is useful. It is more like because I live in CH I need to learn Swiss German and it is like something bad for my kids.

Another point is one of incidence in train or on Bahnhof makes the whole society (including foreigners) Xenophobic or Nazis.

I am not against any local or foreigner who is ranting. I understand it is human behavior but agree or not some of us come and settle in a different country and not ready to make adjustments. We expect 7 millions other local and expats to make adjustments. That is what my rant is all about.

Read some of the posts here in EF and you will know. Water sucks, neighbors are terrible, people don't talk to each other, foreigner are rich and in sensitive, Migros 7 coop are worst place to shop and so many more. It is like the article last week on WSJ which said people with 350K are struggling to manage to live in Zug.

I am not expecting everyone to live without complaining but I am sure some of you might have come across some people who just like to crib about CH.

Samosas at Indian store here are 10 time more expensive and doesn't taste as good as back home. Go and get real, it is true because a Chease Fondue in Delhi will not be as good as Switzerland. Thats all I am trying to say...

Cheers

Well I understand what you are feeling...but as it has been pointed out that it is just human nature to complain and compare.

Remember that most of foreigners here are alone....without family...without any friends..and they feel alienated in this society. And why do they complain to you....maybe also because you are a foreigner and would understand it better than any other person.

They will complain about price of Samosa or bad water...if swiss want prices to be high..so be it...but I would also expect value for money..which is not the case here. Just the other day a Swiss girl was ranting to me about how the Customer Service is so bad here in Zürich..
Also the attitude of some Swiss seems to be.."We just want your money without You."

The foreigners have all the right to rant...complain and to hopefully improve things here. Afterall we all are paying taxes...helping the Swiss Economy and we want a Change...Change....Yes we can

About you and your children learning Swiss German...why not. They are growing up here..and they will connect with the locals much faster. It is never too bad to learn a language...

Damn this thread is getting tooooo long.......RANT!!!

Are you bothered by some of these rants just because it is not what you want to hear?

If you don't agree that Swiss-German is a ''useless language'', then it shouldn't matter to you that your co-worker thinks it is...
