I wonder if someone put's their toddler in a bag if they get to travel for free?
Toddlers travel for free anyhow...

Also, plenty of toddlers are carried in "bags" too.

Really? But... but... they DID get rid of the poncho and sombrero the sticker originally had!

(This is no joke - the story went all the way to the Mexican ambassador in 2006!)

No it's not allowed and the dog needs a ticket too.
Because it intrigued me, I sent the question directly to ZVV via their electronic contact form and they actually called me back on it(!).
So, straight from the horses mouth:

The rule is that if there are enough free seats in the tram, and the dog is sitting on a blanket and no other passenger is disturbed, then, yes, the dog may sit on a seat.

Rainer_D gets an A+ and 3 green blobs for actually asking the horse.

Because the homeless might make a tram smell or a toddler might pee on a seat doesn't make it right for a wet dog to sit on a seat.
Dogs have to have tickets, why shouldn't they get a seat?

So, let's just run that slo-mo action replay...

It kept jumping up on her and the vacant seat next to her.
...
Finally she allowed it to sit on the seat throughout the journey.
..
the person who would have to sit on that seat afterwards and smell like wet dog.
...I make that a score of one out of three.

Perhaps someone else might like to check the maths, devilishly hard tho' it is

The ticket's for the journey, not the seat. If you don't get a seat you don't get to travel for free.

Re: Dogs in tram

What about other pets? I was thinking of taking my goldfish for a jaunt on the tram.

And can I survive on a Zürich tram with SFr120,000?

Cheers,
Nick

A dog lover coming from a country that's overtly cynophobic, I gleefully join in the Swiss obsession:

Dogs on public transport
