| | Neighbours - Grrrrr
Must say first that I am not commenting about my neighbours either side, but one around the corner.
He has a large war time bunker in his back garden and is currently demolishing it. Now after 2 weeks of 8-6 monday to friday of constant banging from the large machinery in place, I am getting just more than a little peeved. He is only about half way through.
I don't work the regular 9-5, if I did, it would not bother me half as much, but I work shifts, where I have to sleep during the day and now after being up almost 36 hours I am ready to launch him into outer space.
Ear plugs aren't up to the job with the noise of this thing.....

..... | | | | | Are the ones on either side forum members?
2 weeks seems along time to be only half way through ... was this bunker for his personal use or for the whole commune ?
Poor you. Shift work and sleep deprivation .. not a good combo.

I work from home and that constant noise would drive me nuts.
I would knock on his door and (politely) inform him of your work/sleep schedule and ask if it's possible for him to not make the noise all day, etc. Hopefully he is at least decent enough to understand that your sleep and work are more important than his "bunker hobby." And if he's unable to understand that for himself, then I would talk to your landlord and perhaps also to your other neighbors. I'd be surprised if you are the only one bothered by his noise.
Good luck! |

Is there anywhere at work you could snuggle a few hours after your shift? A colleague of mine has been known to snooze in a storage cupboard after a heavy night out (and that was during working hours )
I hope it settles down soon for you though, is bad enough convincing yourself to go to sleep at varying times during the week without this on top!

I feel for you. They just started construction on a massive apartment tower across the street. The demolition of the leftover building is driving me bonkers! I don't even want to think what's going to happen when they start digging. And if they reverse that f'ing bobcat one more time I'm going to ....

The demolishment of them started in the 1970ies but continues up to this day. Halfway through in two weeks sounds like quite a performance. I suppose that he got the permission to destroy the nonsense and went into decisive action on the spot.

The thing with these bunkers is that they were made to last and withstand explosions, so demolishing it isn't a quick and simple thing. There is a lot of metal reinforcement and solid, and I mean solid concrete walls and roof.
I live on French side, so they have to get a permission from the Marie.

This of course means, as the Alsace was some 200/250kms east of the Maginot Line, that the bunkers were/are bunkers of Nazi-Germany and built in order to resist any army coming from the West, and were/are even more solid than the rubbish in Switzerland. And if you need a permission in France of such a thing then the Marie will consult the Préfet who in turn will take it up with his superiors in Paris, and so, when the permission finally came round he for sure went into immediate action

Alsace is correct. Lots of them here, the demolished a little one earlier in the year on the other side of the street, but this one now is a big mother.

And we would have had straighter freeways with no speed limits and Aldi in the 1980s. History eh?

I thought with quiet hours between 22:00 and 07:00 that Switzerland wouldn't have shifts. Nevertheless... I feel your pain and sympathise. I've been in your shoes before and it's very frustrating and painful.
Do you have any friends with spare beds away from your current location?

Apparently, in France if you consider the noise a nuisance, then technically it is - no matter the time of day. Have you checked with neighbors to see if anyone else feels the same way?
You could check with the local prefecture to see if they can help work out a time schedule with this neighbor. It's not just a noise issue but also a health issue.
