I'm happy this is the case and that I haven't just been lucky. Stories of nosy and whiny neighbors on this forum are so widespread that I am hesitant to ever live in the German part for fear of it happening to me. Just reading some of this stuff is exhausting and suffocating.
Except for a few exceptions, it's not really like this in the German part of Switzerland either.

People with nice neighbors don't post that on the EF. It's like a forum on adverse effects of medicaments, where you get the impression that medicaments mainly harm people, but that's because only those with troubles, real or imaginary ones, post their complaints. In my opinion, Romands are somewhat more tolerant than Deutschschweizer, but just reading complaints gives you a very biased picture.

Re: Idiot Neighbours...

If you never contacted them before about this issue, and you are afraid to call the police or they do not show up - for whatever reason - you might think about talking to a private 24/7 security company.

In case of another occurance you could agree that you will be allowed to give them a call so they show up and kindly ask they neighbours to stop that noise. On top of all, you would remain anonymous. But think twice about this, you have to be really sure to go down that road.

Good news, had a chat with the very hungover neighbours, they apologised and said they would keep it down in future so for now all good!

Well, clearly you're a person of weak character and lacking morals! I mean, washing with the washing machine? The nerve!

Re: Idiot Neighbours...

Our turn tonight with the idiot neighbours, currently there is someone walking around the apartment above ours in high heels, has been doing this for an hour. Plus the noise from what appears to be a party is getting louder.

We have a 4mth old baby, I don't get much sleep as it is, this may send me over the edge.

I wouldn't hesitate to go up there and explain that you have a small baby and ask them to keep it down a bit -- and for Ms. X to remove her high heels (and for everyone to remove their shoes up there, for that matter). It amazes me that anyone could NOT be aware of how loud high heels sound on a wooden floor, to the people below them.

Good luck!

Definitely go up and knock. If my experience from when my son was tiny is anything to go by you will look pretty unkempt and scary (maybe with that tired eyelid twitch to add to the slightly deranged effect) so it should get your neighbours thinking you are not someone to trifle with..

I remember being 20 something...hell, I called my sister (10 years older than I am) one night nothing thinking it was 3am with the time difference (and she had babies). When you're young and single, parents and babies generally don't cross your radar. Not that it's OK to be an inconsiderate boob, but...folks at that age are trying to attract a mate, not get the babies to sleep.

Go knock on the door. Be a grumpy parent. Have a beer in hand and say loudly "Get of my f-ing lawn you damn kids!" if it'll help. I still smile every time I yelled at some damn townie kids making it hard for me to watch a movie one night and I actually used that line on them...and who were too young to appreciate my sarcasm/humour and hightailed off my lawn pronto.

Re: Idiot Neighbours...

I am just not sure I can go downstairs, I mean what if they get aggressive? I know I should be ok but I am not good in a fight (even less so now I am so sleep deprived)...

It is just so selfish, I hate living in an apartment!

You have a baby(babies), unless they're total assholes, they'll be totally sorry and be accommodating. Be nice and assume the parental position. If they are total assholes, well, there are ways to address that but...try being the exhausted parent first. Kids get it, even if they don't quite understand...

I thought you just said it's upstairs?

Anyway, take your baby with you, and you'll be fine. Both.

Put your speakers out and max volume and play some Nirvana (In Utero < recommended)

So smash them with a very loud powered trash metal grunchy songs.

When police come, is their fault. I did it, it works

Re: Idiot Neighbours...

Well my husband finally went to see them last night (it was downstairs not up, shows how much noise they were making as we had no clue where it was coming from originally).

A girl answered and said it was her birthday hence the noise. My husband said there were a lot of people standing in the doorway.

They eventually finished partying around 1am of course leaving in the lift which is right outside our door so we had that noise for a while afterwards.

Then I was up at 4am and 6am and now (good job there is rugby to watch) to feed our little girl.

Man I feel so refreshed....

I hope you are going to stomp around in heels and bang your doors this morning to destroy their hangover lie-in.
