You can turn it any way you want - the Greek government spent more money than they had. Not once in an emergency, but over decades. They used it to buy one of the most modern Navies in the world, have an military as well as bureacratic elite that lived well from the money the government took as credit for decades.

Making protests on Athens streets NOW is too late - nothing can be changed as there is no bloody way that agritourism will get you out of that debt.

China in the past 3 years has possibly invested more into the Greek economy (harbours, shipping companies, banks etc) than most other people. Which means investments into companies who will go on, whatever happens. China has bought as many € as Switzerland and Japan, which is a lot. So that I think that China by all this has qualified for a major role in the world of the future

We should finally admit that the EU isn't working this way and allow the core countries - Germany, France and the Benelux - to go ahead as they planned for two decades. The others can follow if they want to and when they are ready - instead of blocking all initiatives with veto rights in Brussels.

there is a different mentality with the north and south. you can even see it within the same country (e.g. italy).

there's nothing inherently wrong with greece being in the euro, it was just wrong that people gave the impression that the ECB or Germany would backstop the greek debts.

they should have come out and said unequivocally that too much was being lent to greece, they are going to default and when they do, germany and the ECB will not be there to bail you out - so lend more at your own risk.

Did you really follow the discussion? I would say it went like that:
Greeks: "People are bashing Greeks in this forum! Give us a break as it is not easy on us and it is not our personal fault"
Others: "Greeks are cheaters who live in luxury thanks to other countries."
Greeks: "There are many people who tax evade, yes you are right, there are numerous problems with the Greek system however this is not true of all Greeks, there are many who work really hard, do not tax evade, get nothing in return, low salaries, high prices etc".
Others: "All Greeks are cheaters (very mature by the way)."
Greeks: "No it is not true, I have worked really hard, I paid taxes..."
Others: "Yeah right...(no personal insult, no irony at all-sorry I used the word again) like you worked hard (like you know the other person and insult).

PS: Noone said that other countries need to keep bailing out Greece, plus I focused on what should happen if they are bailed out...the point is not keep getting money but become a self-sustained country. What happened on this thread is that people became really agressive to the Greek members of the forum, blaming them for everything. I am sorry if you cannot see that...

Well, you of course know what the German idea about the E.U. is, but the idea of Belgians and French was and is that the E.U. should be THE European organisation, including as much of Europe as possible and not just a few core countries around Germany. And Italy was one of the founders of the Montan-Union>EEC>E.U. . And while of course Portugal, Spain and Italy HAVE their problems, none of them is as badly off as Greece
