I've noticed them working on the E gates too. This is odd. Before you go from the main terminal into the train (and vice versa) they already have passport control which means that you are crossing the Schengen "border" (this passport control wasn't there before Switzerland was Schengened). So I don't understand why they need to have a non-schengen carriage.
Dunno. This is what a ground crew chap was telling us when we were taking my niece to the gate for her return flight back in the summer. My niece and I are British and he said later this year we would have a non-Schengen carriage and pointed out where we would have to go. The conversation then descended into "Will it be special for just us?" kind of nine-year-old chit-chat so I didn't get any more details.

I fly to the UK a lot (kids father is still in UK) and Swiss fly in and out of B (Manchester and Heathrow) but BA and Easy out of E (Heathrow, Manchester and Gatwick).

As usual......

Because you're based here, it seems to happen more often here. It can happen anywhere. Like my luggage gets "lost" all over the planet, but because I am based here it mostly seems to happen "here".
It was a joke. I was refering to Swiss the airline company rather than country.
I forget there are non brits here.

Re: Non-Shengen Penalties at Zuirch Airport

I thought the split in the E dock train was because of the new central security that's also opening at the end of the year - you will go airside, pass through a search then all of the airside centre will be past security (currently you go through security at the gateline) . This means you can spend longer in the bar airside centre.

Schengen is the A dock, B is for both Schengen and Non Schengen and E is for long haul non-Schengen. B will have two levels to keep Schengen and Non Schengen passengers apart.

Not sure if it's got summit to do with Schengen...

Flew BA last Tuesday to Heathrow and back on Thursday. Smooth as silk, no waiting, no bussing (no breakfast either)
Not sure how you did that, always a queue to get past passport/immigration at Heathrow. Actually I hate that part. Hate the long queues, hate the people checking my passport (saying a 'friendly' hello is wasted). In fact I hate Heathrow, shame it so close to my mother's.

Thinking about a thread on airports in general, my favourite has got to Zurich. It just works.

This is identical to the info I had/have. And I always heard that the B-dock had to be so high to make one Schengen and one non-schengen level possible.

That explains the work they are doing. I guess you would need a different flow for transfers into/out of schengen and outside of schengen.

I will see how its supposed to work when i go thru in dec.

Re: Non-Shengen Penalties at Zuirch Airport

This all such stupidity.

10 years ago when I flew to Greece from Zurich, I took my UK passport and on arrival in Greece walked alone through the "EU Passports" gate without delay. Meanwhile the rest of the plane with Swiss passports queued up for 20 minutes at the non-EU desk.

Today, planes from Switzerland enter Greece without any passport control, while those from Britain go through the full passport check.

The people are exactly the same as before only the politics changed. And we, the paying public are the ones who get messed around...

Remains the question, why does Mr Cameron not finally lead the UK into the Schengen-Zone ? Is he such a coward ?

It's not being outside Shengen that is wrong - it's being it...

The Schengen- and Dublin-agreements have had positive results for Switzerland. The Dublin-agreements (linked to Schengen) allows Swiss Cantonal Police Forces direct access to European police date and direct contacts with "Regional" police forces. The Schengen agreement made travel in the border zones easier while making the actual border controls (by the border police) far more efficient and effective than in the past. And don't tell me stories about a secured border. My brother and me earned pieces of chocolates by finding border stones along the SH-BH borderline, in an area where there was no customs official to be seen far around, and through which I could have smuggled hundreds of "immigrants" into Switzerland quite discreetly Grandmum, not so well financially, went with us to the next German village for a very cheap Süssmost or Limonade. There also were many walkways from Stein-am-Rhein into Germany where there never was a customs official from either side ever. And as I knew from my cousin in Geneva, she and her school-mates knew quite many roads leading into France uncontrolled. And there for ages, in places like Stein, Schaffhausen, Geneva, and places like Brissago, Mendrisio and Chiasso were whole families who improved their livelihood by "circumventury" trade the discreet way
