Asian tourists - rather "clumpsy" people?

First of all dont even bother with the racist-stuff, im certainly not racist, this is just me noticing a common behavour among our asian tourist friends.

- When they are to pay at coop the act like its the first time ever they use paper money. They look scared, they discuss with their wife and they find it unbelievable they will recieve CHF return for EUR.
- One guy needed to be told how to use his own credit card 3 times by the cashier.
- In fact, even adults act like they are on a different planet just while shopping at Coop - are asian stores really that different?
- The like to stop whereever they feel like, for example in a doorway oblivious to the fact that people are trying to pass.
- They have a limited field of vision, they simply refuse to note that people are trying to pass or whatever.
- Two girls simply put the whole cart (EDIT:Carrier thingy) on the belt at coop, ignoring the fact that everyone else took their stuff out of the cart. Its like they have never seen that system before.

Am i the only one who have noticed this? A friend of mine who used to live in Hongkong told me its even worse there, he sometimes needed to physically move locals out of his way on the sidewalk, literally almost lifting them up just to get past.

Asia is a big place. You might want to be more specific about who you are insulting here

I don't think he has insulted anyone...he merely stereotyped in a negative manner.

I figured it was the Russians.

Was just looking for a relevant "In Soviet Russia" pic to post.

I've got nothing against people who say "I'm not a racist but..." but so often such people then go on to say something out and out racist!

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Asian tourists - rather "clumpsy" people?

I think this is not "Asian tourist" behavior so much as just "tourist from somewhere far, far away" behavior.

Sometimes everything really is so different, you just gotta stop right where you are and take it all in. I've certainly done that before now, and I'm not Asian. (Half wish I were - then more people would think I was a tourist instead of just daft. )

Complain about anyone who behaves like this - fine. Complain just about "Asians" who behave like this?

Well, I've never been to Asia so I can't really compare, but I'm pretty sure that if I ever go there as a tourist I'll be pretty lost too!

So far I noticed that Asian tourists in Lausanne are extremely polite when they ask you to help them go somewhere. And they like to take pictures of weird things (quite often my dog, who is certainly cute but quite common as dogs go, and a mutt).

I know Swiss men who ask for a douche at the chemist's.

I wonder what they do with a douche. Weird culture.

Wow, you have really given it some thought haven't you?

You base your view of all Asians on a shopping experience at COOP?

Well done. You have done your country proud.

I myself did some pretty stupid things in Japan.. So i wouldn't hold anything against a tourist, other than being Obnoxious in an uncaring manner.

It's funny how some of the people who get touchy on this thread are the first ones to dismiss political correctness on threads about "blackface" or the recent thread posted by the local on "the Bogeyman children's game". Hypocrites much?

Alternatively, it's always funny going up to a Swiss person and asking in English if they're ok and do they require assistance as they seem "a bit lost?"

Outside of Europe, it is still common that you hand your credit card over, they swipe it, you sign something. PIN what?

It takes me like an hour to shop - translating in my head, figuring out why eggs are on the shelf and lemon juice is with the iced tea in one place and baking stuff in another. And what's sour cream? Where's the brown sugar?

Here, people seem so passive aggressive - rather than asking me to move or clearing their throat, they stand angrily tapping their foot! Geez!

Yeh, I did that the first time. Because I hadn't seen that system before.

And I'm pretty much the opposite of Asian.
