Well Muslims do believe that Jesus (Isa) is a prophet so I don't see why Muslims shouldn't celebrate his birthday
Quite so, I know. That's why they wouldn't appreciate my anti-religious attitude and mocking of religious festivals.

Re: The Swiss Think Its Christmas Already?

I’m always wondering why the marketing “experts” treat cosumers like idiots. Most people roll their eyes when they see Christmas merchandise in October, and yet shops make the same bad decision every year.

I love Christmas and for once I would like to see the right time and place for it. Why do marketers have to cheapen everything? I refuse to believe that such a ploy boosts sales. I’d like to think that consumers are better informed nowadays and quite savvy of such tricks.

No. Many vocal people say they roll their eyes, but sometimes they quietly stock up on mince pies, christmas puddings and other stuff to eat before Christmas. And the shops make a decent profit. No retailer - well, no decent retailer - would clear shelves of stuff which sells and replace it with stuff which doesn't, year after year.

Some people will roll their eyes and still buy stuff later. Others will be lapping it up and trying to avoid the December rush.

Re: The Swiss Think Its Christmas Already?

I usually buy all my Christmas deco on or around January 2nd. Soo much cheaper then... BTW- I see the Christmas lights in stores- is decorating one's house here with lights big here like in the US? When I was a child, my family would go for strolls through the neighborhood to see all the lit-up houses. Sometimes, on return trips from wherever, we would take detours through other neighborhoods to see the lights.

Re: The Swiss Think Its Christmas Already?

Some of us generally give a rat's ass about that period at the end of December. The only saving grace are College Football games and the start of the wild card games in the NFL.

I know where I'll be on Christmas Day. Surrounded by thousands of Christmas Trees in a winter wonderland half way up a mountain trail running or hiking to some obscure peak to visit some Alpine ibex; they make great company and don't feel the need to watch the Queen talk shit at 3pm.

could you pick me up a couple, as well, please? Cheers, mate.

Actually I had to go look up what mince pies were made of because I had no idea.
Then all the recipes I found said "500g mincemeat". Ok. that helps... wtbh is mincemeat???

so I searched and I searched and I searched.... ewww.... raisins.

Not at all, I've lived here 11 years and have seen two houses comparable with US style decorating.

For me, they can't get stollen in the shops early enough. Two months of stollen eating is just not enough. yummy yummy

Nearly Easter then.
No that'll start on 26th December!

I have to say its very confusing for little kids who think Jesus was born at Xmas and then only lived until Easter..
