Simply don't go to any parks with dolphins - there are no good ones.
agreed - it's just that Connyland is the only amusement park anywhere within a 250 km radius from where we live

Re: Boycott Conny-Land.

Thank you for this information. A few friends of mine go there quite often and I was planning on taking my children there. I haven't had a chance to look at their website yet (also, just forgot to) and I'm always on the lookout to find activities for my children. I most certainly will not be supporting this establishment in any way. Just so heartbreaking.

Re: Boycott Conny-Land.

Having been to the park....I have seen with my own eyes how the animals are treated, and not just the dolphins..... (as stated in my first post)

And I have to say, 'Connyland isn't doing anything wrong' - I 100% beg to differ.

If dolphins aren't destined to live long in the wild, it doesn't make it right for them to be kept in captivity and for the nature statistics to make these parks 'morally right', because they aren't, and never will be.

Animals shouldn't be performing for anyone. It's disgusting.

I also have my doubts about the findings, too..... I whole-heartedly believe that holding a 2 day disco in a park in which animals reside, is wrong, wrong, wrong. It's not just a dolphin park, they have lots of different animals living there. Yes, living there.

But of course, this is just my opinion. I won't change it. I can't change it. And on top of that, I stand by my original post....if you love animals, boycott Connyland. It's cruel.

Well, things have turned out quite differently from what was initially suspected:

1. the dolphin died from a rare skin disease and not as a result of the techno party (apparently, there was absolutely zero noise from that party audible where the dolphins are kept)

2. From the 7 dolphins that died over the last couple of years, only one was sick and died prematurely. 5 were very old, one was a baby animal - even in nature, only one in 3 baby dolphins survives - and in nature, most dolphins don't make it to the age the 5 old animals were.

The reason why the number of deaths was so high over the last couple of years is that no young dolphins were imported into Switzerland in more than 20 years, so the age of the remaining population is very high.

http://www.20min.ch/news/ostschweiz/story/29243239

The federal veterinary office is saying that the animals are kept well and in accordance with international standards.

While I still think it's wrong to keep dolphins in captivity (here and elsewhere), at least Connyland isn't doing anything wrong - beyond keeping the animals in the first place.

Driving through France yesterday I noticed all the cows are white. I presume that is to prevent them being shot when the country is invaded

Re: Boycott Conny-Land.

So that's now 8 within 3 years

And 2 within a fortnight of that party.....

So sad.

Even the Daily Mail have reported it now:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...h-dolphin.html

Thanks for the information, didn't even know about the second one passing away on Sunday.

I've heard Connyland doesn't want anymore investigations, but there's a strong possibility there will be more investigations whether they like it or not, and that there is now legal involvement. I strongly hope this is true, for the sake and welfare of all those animals.

lol! This made me laugh.

Admittedly, I don't have a lot of respect for DM, but I'm very surprised that the story has reached the English press I thought the DM only reported about fake tans and Kim Kardashian these days...

That's your point of view.

To me seeing another person being degraded is cheap
As long as somebody is making and ass of himself voluntarily and it's entertaining I miss to see the degrading part of it.

To NotAllThere: Perhaps I should....I do feel strongly about it.

But I just intended to warn people about the accusations facing the park - in the complaints corner! This is a place to vent afterall.

It's not about me personally, a lot of people don't like the idea of animal cruelty. In fact, the majority of people are against it. (obviously). It's something I'd have been interested in knowing about, since I live in Switzerland and like to know what's going on with the establishments around us.

Re: Boycott Conny-Land.

I think it's a terrible thing what happened! It's never nice to see animals suffering and anyone who disagrees is just cruel.

Thanks very much to falloutchik to point this all out to us. I think it's a very important subject because clearly something isn't going right in that park and it needs to be investigated. It's only fair to the animals.

Sorry - do you mean that anyone who gets enjoyment out of seeing animals suffering is cruel - which seems fairly self evident - or that anyone who thinks these animals aren't suffering is cruel?

Circuses I agree with - hate to see animals being paraded about doing stupid tricks but haven't zoos moved on a bit from just cages for display?

Many zoos operate breeding programmes to protect species as well as research into endangered species to try to avoid extinction.
Not necessarily.

Some animals need to be occupied and teaching them to do things in circuses is thus less cruel than just displaying them in a zoo where boredom may drive them to develop completely unnatural psychotic behaviour. It all comes down to how they are kept and looked after and whether the tricks they are taught are in keeping with their natural instincts and abilities or are designed purely to amuse people with little regard for the well being of the animal.

Quite many animals enjoy "performing" as it for them rather is playing. I will never forget my visit in 76 in L.A. to the Marineland. I arrived a while after the show and got a reduced ticket. I approached the Orcas from the side, and looked them "into the face". And suddenly, totally to my surprise, they started a non-guided performance of their own. Those large and clearly intelligent orcas looking for my applause were not plagued and not driven by anybody. Their "private" performance was short of course, but absolutely unforgotten

To those of you who suggested the documentary 'The Cove' - thank you, thank you, thank you.

Incredibly insightful.

And funny enough, they have a report which relates quite well to this thread (about Connyland) on their official website:

http://www.takepart.com/cove/cove-watch

(Right now it's the top story)

Quite an interesting perspective! All is clearly not as it seems.

Thanks again for the suggestion to watch The Cove - an unforgettable documentary.

Edit: An opinion from the experts: http://www.takepart.com/actions/capt...t-dolphin-show
