| | Broken 2 week old iMac and Interdiscount won't replace it
Hi, wondering if anyone can help me. On 5 November, we bought a new 27inch Apple iMac from the Interdiscount store in Zug costing 1800chf. Exactly two weeks later, on Saturday, it 'black screened' and we were not able to restart it despite calling the Apple helpline. As it was close to 5pm, I called Interdiscount for help. They said I should bring it in on Monday, speak to the manager and hope that they would replace it for us, even though they only have a 10 day return policy. This morning my husband took it in first thing. The manager refused to come down to speak to us and the staff member was insistent that all they could do was send it in for repairs. To say I am DISGUSTED with this service, is an understatement. Does anyone know how we could take this further - perhaps to Interdiscount HQ? What are our consumer rights in Switzerland? Any help or advice on this would be much appreciated.

Consumer rights are not very good in CH. Sending it back is about all you can expect, buying from an Apple store might be better.

Prepare for a long wait. They'll mention 3 weeks and it'll most likely be 3 months. |

you are best booking an appointment with the genius bar in the apple store - they are very helpful and will fix your computer under warranty even though you bought it elsewhere
Call apple care again and they will talk you through some diagnostics at home first.
If you can't speak german then go onto apple.com/uk and select any store/branch in the UK and call their number and then I think select '2' for apple care and you will get through to the UK apple care. I have done this several times and they have been helpful with me and sorting out repairs in CH
Good luck - Apple themselves will help you out I am sure

As people have said do NOT and I repeat DO NOT send it for repairs via interdicount. Go into the Apple store and be treated like a customer should be treated

I agree just take it to Apple for repairs.
Just glad you didn't let it sour your taste for Apple. They really do make superior products.

To me (as an ausländer) it's still a mystery how Interdiscount has customers. Their prices are ridiculous, which is ironic considering the name...InterDISCOUNT. I went to one of their stores a few weeks ago as my mouse broke down and needed one asap. I knew it would be more expensive than "off the net", but was prepared to pay some extra cash due to the urgency. However, the actual price was more than double compared to microspot! Same mouse!

I'd factor in the 3-year Apple Care, though, just in case.
Having to rely on them for support would not really be something I'd be looking forward to.

On 5 November, ................. | | | | | You should have better luck at an Apple store, as many have said. I must say though in your defence, the Interdiscount in Zug is particularly bad. On Saturdays I avoid it like the plague, seems terribly understaffed and they definitely don't look happy. On the otherhand they also dont inspire any confidence as they're advice I've found is often wrong or they don't seem to know (Im only talking Zug here, in SG ive had a better experience). Hopefully it gets sorted quickly for you.

Welcome to Switzerland where the customer is NOT the king, the customer is NOT always right (even when they're wrong ). Just count yourself lucky that you have the priviledge of shopping at their store .
There are lots of great things about Switzerland, but generally speaking good customer service is not one of them.
If I were you I would just refuse to leave the store until you talk to the manager. Don't give up and let them win. Stores in CH are losing a lot of business to neighbouring countries where things are cheaper. When are they going to learn that the only thing that might improve the state of things is if they offer an exceptional service?
At the moment I am feeling pretty bitter myself at some very lousy customer service from Coop. The only thing there is what choice do you have- it's either Coop or Migros. Anyways, good luck with it!

Our parliament refused recently to bring in some (desperately needed) customer rights. In the past, the shop you bought your stuff need to take care of the warranty - regardless and for a period of one year. So was it written in the "OR" (Obligationen Recht).
Meanwhile, this written law has the value of printed toilet paper...
In the "AGB" the "Allgemeinen Geschäftsbedingungen" (General terms and conditions) they even can take away your right of warranty! Our lawmakers expect that you read first every line of this fine print before purchase, keep a print of it (the business need to apply the "AGB'S" by date of purchase) Any changes LATER will not apply. I.E. didgitec has a passus, saying that you only getting warranty for "time" left. Means if you buy a harddrive and it breaks after 6 month you're entitled of only 50% warranty.
Buying online, you have to click on the Acceptance of the AGB's.
If you buy in the shop, the AGB's have to be public readable on an easy to reach spot. (Seen it nowhere by myself) - this is most often the nail you need to hook them. If you know this law!
All over I can see we are adopting US business practice without giving the consumer the rights as they have in the US. This said, I still have a US firm in Florida owns me $7500.-
In your case, Apple is in charge down the line anyway, you better deal with them directly.

At home we found out some faults, and when I phoned there I was refused with some standard-phrases, but then my father gave them another call and threatened them to hand over everything and all details to Blick on Monday morning first. They became "civil" within seconds . I regard the fact that you at times only can succeed when "threatening" people by the media as sad and even depressing, but exactly in the electronics/telecom_branch the tendendy to blame the customer first is quite heavy |
