Re: The Finger pointers

Got one i heard recently. A good friend of mine used to have fun at his parties by wowing guests with his dazzling wine knowledge. He would give them the works ......colour, the nose, the palate, the flavours, the finish etc. Bla bla. He used to stand in the kitchen reading the back of the label before serving them, unbeknown to his guests of course.
One evening at someone else's dinner party, without seeing the bottle he thought he would dazzle his pretty dinner neighbour with his wine skills. He went into depth about the various aspects of the wine (complete rubbish of course) and she looked bemused and told him she could not taste many of the flaours he claimed were in the glass. Instead of giving up he continued this, but lady was not significantly impressed.
After a while she changed subject and asked him about his work, which he did. When he politely asked her what she did to earn a crust, she informed that she was a wine critic
He turned several shades of red an was rather quiet during the remainder of the evening.
Moral of the story.....hell....go for it anyway

Re: The Finger pointers

The brass neck of some folk eh? This reminds of the time my son got into an altercation with a bully at his school, and after being hit, he hit the boy back on the shoulder. The next day I got a phone call from the boy’s father saying they’d taken their son to the doctor as his shoulder was sore, and he wanted me to pay the doctor’s bill !!
Like you, I didn’t say much to him as I was fuming. However, after a good vent on the EF and asking for a bit of advice, the responses I got gave me a real boost and I rang the guy back early the next morning and asked him in a very efficient no nonsense manner if he had 5 mins free to talk, he said yes, so I said I'd be right over. After a bit of stuttering on his side, he said now was no good as he was just off to work! I arranged to meet him at 7pm that evening and hung up after I said goodbye (very curtly) At 5 to 7 he phoned me to tell me they weren’t at home, and perhaps we could sort it out on the phone !! So I said my piece and then got as far as "and as for me paying your Doctors bill...." to which he said “it doesn’t matter” and we never heard anything from them again. They just try it on with you.....cheeky buggers. Let us know how you get on with her. We’re all right behind you!

Re: The Finger pointers

Last episode:
I checked the position with K-Tipp. They stated that the boy with the handy on the stairs was going in the direction of gross negligence and that there is no way that my son may be held liable.

I called the Mother this morning....received a lot of abuse, down to her telling me "I was already told that I could not speak to you" and her claiming that my son is heavy handed with others at school. she also pointed out that there were lawyers in the family and gross negligence is a legal term and nothing to do with this situation.

Very clear...being thoroughly peeved that I refused to claim on my insurance she went for the personal abuse method.

Don't these people have lives to lead? No point talking to idiots like that.
Calming down time again

Re: The Finger pointers

I can't believe the nerve this woman had to call you, you really have to be mental to do such a thing! Hope she does not bother you again. Just tell your kid if he runs into the other kid to tell him that he knew his phone was already damaged and he is not going to get paid for something that was his own fault. As to their relationship...do you really want your kid hanging out with such a moron? guess not...

Oh I just remembered something that happened to me in NL, where they also have liability insurance. My cat went out the window and into the neighbour's house, I went to knock at her door and told her where he was and if I could go get him. She said not to worry she wood take him, I said I better do it because he is a bit nervous. After 10 minutes she shows up with the cat. Two days lataer my roommate told me the woman wanted to talk to me so I went and she told me that the cat had bitten her and she needed to go to the doctor and that I needed to pay for her medications. I said that I was not responsible as I told her I wanted to go get him and that when she came out that day she never mentioned the bite, also that I was a student and had no money. She said oh you do not have liability insurance? I said no...so she stopped harrassing me. My stupid roommate felt I was cheating her as she had had a problem to which I told her, why didn't she tell me when she came with the cat? why two days after? and that her finger was perfect..she backed off...some people are just stsupid and others even stupider...

Got to agree with Angela-74, the woman sounds mental. She's all bluster. You've said your piece, you know you're in the right and she hasn't got a leg to stand on, (and I think she realises this too) so go make yourself a nice brew and take some deep breaths. It's done with....finito.

Unfortunately, they are in the same class so it cant be avoided for the time being. Told my son not to wear or carry anything breakable for a couple of months.

Is that not just part of the school curriculum here?

Re: The Finger pointers

now why is it that some people always have to shoot against "THE SWISS PEOPLE" when something like this happens?

yes we do have a lot of insurance, and I am especially thankful for the one that pays for whatever my sons break - I'd have to work 100% if it wouldn't.

and I guess you'd agree with me that you would always pay without even losing a word about it if you felt your child was really responsible for a broken phone.
So why exactly do some folks have to use this one, very "special" woman as a reason to diss all Swiss?

Seriously, if you dislike us so much, don't live here.

As for the issue, the Beobachter offers legal help, just in case the "lawyers in the family" are trying to get some money out of you..

Re: The Finger pointers

what normally happens in this situation. can you claim from your own insurance and get them to deal with claiming it from the 3rd party (assuming it is the fault of the 3rd party and this can be proved) or is it normal that you try to claim from the 3rd party directly (i guess this can only happen if they agree it was their fault).

I understand it to be that the person at fault submits a claim and the insurance company then deals with it, either directly with the person who has suffered a loss or their insurers (not sure which)

......I was quoting not purely the Swiss, but generally the attituse in this country. I have worked here for quite some years and this is not a one-off occurrence.

secondly, "if you dislike us....don't live here"
erm I am half Swiss and quite frankly this country would not survive too well without the foreign assistance in lots of jobs and the tax monies being contributed.

as far as paying for a phone if I believed my son was responsible...absolutely. That is why I bothered to call K-Tipp to find out what the legal position is. I will also be calling someone else to get another opinion. The woman was abusive but if she has a valid claim, I will pay as I am rather too fair-minded...must be something very "non-Swiss" eh

I think you'll find that Brits and Americans get blamed for a lot more in this forum than the Swiss ever do!

I could of course, be very nasty here, and ask why, if you dislike English Forum Aliens saying negative things about the Swiss, you come into 'our' Forum and read it.
