Stone chips

Last night I was overtaking this massive tipper truck when I heard an almighty thwack!! It was too dark to properly check the car, but this morning I spotted it. A dirty big crack in the windscreen about 4cm from the passenger side edge. I wish I had taken the barsteward's number plate because his load should have been better secured

Re: Stone chips

if its smaller than a 5fr coin you can get it repaired - but might be an issue that its less than 6cm from the edge.... hope u have glass cover?

Re: Stone chips

if it makes you feel any better, we had the windscreen replaced in our landcruiser due to a huge chip, the next day the new one got hit and had to be repaired

I am not in any way consoled by your bad fortune it shouldn't happen.. period. Trucks transporting aggregate should have their loads properly secured or the owners face a massive fine.

Is that the law, or just common sense? Because we live right near a cement factory (I think that's what it is) and trucks with loads of stone in them go past all the time, merrily launching bits out of the sides at intervals.

ETA: Sorry about your windscreen. :-(

It would be next to impossible to prove that the chip came from truck though - unless you can find the piece that made the crack and forensically link it to the load. They/the trucker could argue that it came from the road (i.e. flicked up by the tyre).

In front of the telly. I know I have a big car, but it ain't no "massive tipper truck". Speaking of which, my car is at the Land Rover garage in Munch Muesch... over by Driespitz
