Steroids are great, aren't they? Rugby players decide on their own moves, NFL players, not so much. Also - not much money in rugby, a lot of the guys are amateurs.

In other news, who else would enjoy watching a tournament where first a team of rubgy players had to play American football against a bunch of NFL types and then a game with the reverse? See who fares better.

Some of the NFL running backs, linebackers would do very well at Rugby if they had the fitness and knew the game. Linemen not so much.

Alright, in the light of this thread, I've decided to change my avatar to one of the greatest wide receivers and human beings out there.

Chad is ready!

I strike that pose when I fart as well.

as for the rugby vs. football debate, especially those of you who somehow think that putting on a set of flimsy pads would protect you, I offer you the following purely scientific analysis:

Re: US / UK nicht!!!

pads and helmets just make the players hit harder. A Rugby player wouldn't run full head on to hit a 250 pound man running full on at him. This happens in the NFL. Hence all the concussions, even with helmets on.

Spot on. In rugby, the hits are usually at angles - the violence of a direct, momentum-stopping collision in football is ridiculous. Do that once without pads and you are in the hospital.

anyway, it's apples and oranges, really. Different sports, different conditioning. Football players are stronger and faster in quick bursts, rugby players have better endurance.

1. Our language is better, and certainly much more conducive to daily and social conversation. Could you ever imagine asking a gringo to "put it in the boot"?
You do know that using the same 10 words interspersed with filler noises such as dude, awesome and gee-wizz is not considered as an improvement to the English language.

may as well get going on this one

"we (USA) won the war"

As an American I've been bought a few pints as thank-you's from old gents in pubs for "your boys lending a hand back then" but as for America winning the war I'm sure that would come as great surprise to my dad (RIP) who built Lancaster bombers in Canada.
and my father in law (RIP) who flew them.

Research also shows that the number of times a man or woman laughs during their lifetime is directly proportional to their sense of humor.

I can't tell whether your British and mocking American English, or whether your German and mocking the local dialect in Zurich???

as above, I meant the Revolutionary War. we most assuredly did win that one, it's the only war in US history in which I let myself think of "winners" and "losers".
