Asian/Russian programming on American TV channels

So I'm paying 40 bucks a month for cable TV to watch the few American stations they are offering, and all I get is some crappy second-hand Russian programming. Suicide attacks in Turkmenistan. Economic slump in Idontgiveashitistan. Wow.

Any ideas on what could be done to make em run the American tapes here ?

Um. Wow. A bit over-the-top, don'chathink?

American shows are shown quite often on many of the regular Swiss channels, as well as on the Austrian and French channels I get as part of my cable package. The names may be different (for example, Two and a Half Men is / used to be "My Cool Uncle Charlie"on SF2 and CSI is "Les Experts" on one of the Swiss French stations) but they're there.

What sorts of shows do you like watching? Maybe if you share that, some of us may tell you what to look for on what channel. Also, a thing to know, is that many of the main Swiss channels have two language options. With my Cablecom I can switch between English and German (or maybe watch in English with German subtitles) when watching most of the American shows I like to watch on SF2.

we're not all like ThomasT.

and surely it can't be a true American station as they would not be covered news outside the US until after the lost cat and stunt hamster story have been run.

Thomas, lots of channels in the US do either radio or video streaming. Find your local news fix there.....and given the time difference, you can often see how the commuter traffic is

I don't want to be all Godwin but this forum's more "Hitler" than others I've been in.

Report the first post and maybe they delete it. I have no idea if they read all threads.

They might remove the thread for being off topic now.

Re: Asian/Russian programming on American TV channels

Er...what's the drama? We get a cluster of US/UK stations on our cable (though I will say in the case of a few of them, there is no English option which is a pisser) and have to say it has been a disappointment. The only time I really watched any of them was during the riots in London last summer.

My recommendation is to get an anonymous proxy, Hulu Plus and an HD cable for your tv/computer and save the $40 for 2 pizzas instead.

Re: Asian/Russian programming on American TV channels

Some of the Swiss and Italian channels have alternate audio tracks, so most American movies do show up in English on them (SF1, etc). I run my dvr all day picking up whatever shows I can find on BBC, ITV, etc. Other than that, internet is your friend! (sidereel.com, bittorrent, etc)

I used to live in Poland, where pickings were even slimmer on TV! Comparatively, the choice here is not that bad. In particular because you don't have some immutable old guy talking over the English soundtrack in Polish.

Obviously, for the company you buy your channels from, the USA is Idontgiveashitistan.

You can't blame cablecom for what NBC and CNN choose to air on their European channels. They seem to think that European viewers are not interested in American content. The only American shows they have on are Wulf Blitzer and Jay Leno. Maybe they are influenced by copyright and foreign security reasons, I don't know.

Re: Asian/Russian programming on American TV channels

Moving to Switzerland soon so I've been researching. Downloading movies/TV shows is not illegal in Switzerland. My plan is to use torrents to download shows and then HDMI from my computer to the TV. You can download pretty much any show you want within a couple of days after it is aired "new" in the US. I even purchased an extra big external hard drive to store the shows.

You're right, I won't blame them for that

I miss Danish TV, if you people have a solution, thanks.
