I don't understand why a person's height should make a difference to passing people on the escalator? All escalators I have used in Switzerland (and the World) seem to have ample upwards space for the majority.
Height? Oh thank you you sweet talking you.

Re: Sbb: Stand on the left - walk on the right and other funny and not so funny thing

I wonder why they are making such a fuss about the Basel train station now. I mean, come on, it works in the rest of the world, why not in Switzerland? Is it simply the fact that somebody is taking away their personl freedom to decide where to stand and where to walk, letting all common sense go out the window?

It was on the radio all day yesterday and I listened to some of it, people phoned in being all upset that there should be a regulation on how to stand/walk on escalator, some people even said"I'm going to stand on the side I want". How dumb is that.

Re: Sbb: Stand on the left - walk on the right and other funny and not so funny thing

It is strange that a lot of people seem to understand the basic common sense apporach to commuter travel but yet, when you're out there, so many people fall fail of basic spacial awareness and the unwritten, or now in some cases, written rules.

I just stopped being nice about it all. It is sad that my Britishness is being eroded away but when in Rome and all that, well not Rome, but you get the point.

The more people start correcting other people and forcing a few elbows and shoulders in the faces of the mongs from being completely devoid of their surroundings and physics, the more people will start waking up and realising the act of commuting is not a time to sleep, well, not until you are on the train anyway if you are so inclinded to do so.

They'll change their mind when they face plant down the stairs for not following etiquette.

I suspect an uprise in this for 2013:

Well either way we should all be using the stairs. They're healthier.
You are "outed."

I'll bet you are a stairatarian, right? All stairs with the occasional escalator/elevator here and there, but really only when you are out with friends or traveling?

Or are you following strict stairism? Stairs only, hands-free, so no touching the handrail.

Next thing we know you'll be trying to convert us all......

they should have a slide at the exit of each escalator to stop idiots stopping there and chatting.

Re: Sbb: Stand on the left - walk on the right and other funny and not so funny thing

Speaking of which, my pet peeve is in the airport after a long flight when you have gotten your luggage and tools from the band, or not, depending on what airline and flight, run the gauntlet of latex gloved customs officials, gotten to the exit and you can't get out because the exit is blocked by grandma Selma granddad Fred who are busy kissing and hugging their sprogs and their sprog's sprogs. Ahhh-ing and Ohh-ing and "you look wonderfull-ing" totally unaware that two plane loads of jet-lagged technicians just want to drag their sorry asses to a hotel bar.
