My shopping spree from hell....

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, I suppose the moderator will change it if not.

Sometime ago I answered and add from a research company looking for shoppers in Zurich. Although I live quite far, I decided to give it a go, and surprisingly they called me and offered me job.

The thing was they have a big producing factory as a client and needed to check their products in some stores in Europe.

I had to go to the stores (list given by them) and buy all this brand's products if I noticed some issues (scratches, stains and so on). They offered to give me some money to buy as advance, but said all expenses would be covered by them (traveled time, km and my working time).

Is sounded a good deal, as I'm not working and don't speak German quite well either.

They gave me just over 250 CHF to start shopping, the rest of the money would have to come from my pocket (hubby's to be fair )

Anyhow; as the products in question were all households and food, and I had to visit over dozen of shops around Zurich (some in the German border) during 15 days I turned our lives upside down.

Friends having to look for the child while I'm driving, child having lunch at somebody else's house because I'm at the store...everything to finish the job.

Once done and information sent, I waited for my payment and started getting a bit concerned, nobody sent me emails (before they will write to me over ten emails a day, asking for more products to be bought and more details to be sent) I waited a few days...nothing....another weekend....nothing.

So, I decided to write to my contact asking what should I do with over the thousand CHF in products I had storaged in my garage, and when I'll should expect the money. He replays he'll ask.

A few days later he writes that the amount of km I had traveled were too many (they knew were I lived before and when someone of their company was here to show me what to do at the stores, I explained how long takes to get to Zurich..so I thoug they were fine with that) so he said they are concerned about that. After that he said to me that they found out I had taken longer routes to reach some stores....so as Google maps showed shorter ways, they would not pay me those km over

I wrote back and told him that was not fair at wall, that I had driven all that distance and all of that. So he writes back..ok, I'm so nice I'll pay that.

Days later and the money still doesn't come, but I receive an email from them offering me another shopping spree (with my own money of course) this one would last two days and I had to send them some products by courrier I wrote back I wouldn't do it because I'm still waiting for my payment....and they send an email asking if I know someone who could do it!!!! ...they wanted me to recommend someone!!

I wrote I don't and that I'm still waiting for my payment, they answer they meant to come back to me on that, because I had over spent their budget for this proyect and I had to send them receipts....They never said don't over spend, in fact asked me to buy more every time!!

So I sent the receipts (scanned) and I'm still waiting for my money.

I just wanted to let you know what has happened and how painful it's being for me to get my money back and to be paid. So if you decided to answer to any advertisment looking for shoppers in Switzerland, ask for the money to shop before..and be sure they know what they are doing. I'm really upset with all of this and hope I'll get at least what I spent.

Sorry the long moaning but I needed it!!!

Re: My shopping spree from hell....

It sounds like they were trying to pull a fast one on you. Do you have anything at all in writing stating what they expected of you, and how much they expected you to spend, plus how far you could travel? Did you get offered actual money for the time you spent during your shopping, and not just reimbursement for your own expenses?

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear this.
Did you document everything (their name, address, phone number, their proposal, the receipts for all the products you bought and all their and your emails)?

Please seek professional help on this issue ASAP.

Making you pay 750 bucks out of pocket (as well as the gasoline etc.) for something they want and refusing to pony up the dough now, sounds VERY shady, to say the least, and it is most definitely not ok. I'd be pissed as well.

In the future, stay far away from this kind of ad!

Best of luck.

Looks like a twist on a Nigerian scam. Are you sure the company isn't based there. Just make sure you don't lend them any money...

I'm not getting the plot here to be honest.
From what I've gathered, the OP has been doing some mystery shopping for middle man X, for products of Company Y.

Middle man X has been stringing her along and trying to get her to do more mystery shopping on her own expenses.

The only way this is a scam is if middle man X is claiming to have done the mystery shopping himself and is fobbing off the OP and taking all the money to himself.

Name and shame the dirty maggot and the company behind the goods!

Re: My shopping spree from hell....

Did you really believed that this would work out? I heard they have a lot of freshly dead super-rich uncles in Nigeria...
I mean, times are not that good, I agree, but how desperate must one be to go for a scam like this and shelve so much money just to start?
There is hope - unless this is prank, they got you into shopping some very specific brands, in specific shops etc. So whoever gained from Your shopping is somehow connected to person that gave you this "work".

I have a contract signed with this research company.
They didn't tell me they had a limited amount of money for this survey, that's why I kept shopping, in fact they would asked me to buy more. The distance, same thing, they knew where I live, didn't say anything about it. Is just now that is time to pay, they are looking for excuses, at least that's what it seems to me.

Yes, I was offered money per hour worked ( at the stores and at home, when sending the info).

Name and shame!
I really though of naming and shaming them right now, but I'm still hopping for them to show they are a serious company, and the problem is that their employees in charge of the shoppers abroad are useless and aren't giving all the info we ned to understand where we stand.

But if this doesn't happen soon, I'll be naming and shaming them for sure!

Hope is never a good strategy! If you are hoping that means you have reasonable doubt that they are not a serious company...

Just name the buggers, and we'll tell you if they're serious or not. If they turn out to be serious you can always come back and say they have paid you etc.

I don't get what you are trying to remark?

This happened to me and I'm still hopping to get my money back..yes, it might not happen, so there will be another fool in this world. But I'm not telling tales here. Sorry I couldn't be that clear so you could understand.

I was told I could dispose all competitor's products ( I was asked to buy products from competitor brands as well) and to keep the ones from their client, until they arrange a courier to pick them up from my place....still waiting.

It seems strange... Buy the defect ones from their brand and competitors and send them theirs?

What for?

contact the researcher company and tell them if they don't pay you in 7 days, you will go to the brand directly to ask for a refund and detail how you've been treated. you'll get the money so fast, you won't know what hit you!
