Re: Am I being sensitive? 1st GP experience...

No you're not being sensitive. Fire the GP, find another, and also get a gyn. I'm assuming a smear is a PAP smear?

Something that you might find a little different here is that if you need breast surgery (e.g., for cancer) - the surgery is performed by a gyn specially trained to do so. That's actually why I switched gyn (My first gyn referred me to another gyn who was an expert in breast surgery).

For the poster who asked about cancer - I developed it while here, and I am followed by a medical oncologist. I received my treatment via the oncologist although during chemo, my primary care doc did weekly blood counts if I wasn't going to the oncologist. My primary care doc does the non cancer stuff (cholesterol, blood sugar, aches and pains, flu), but the oncologist does the cancer stuff. For breast cancer, you're followed every 3 months by both oncologist and gynecologist - this is because there is a risk of recurrence that remains. There are some excellent oncologists in Switzerland.

I think that a medical oncologist is better qualified to treat a cancer patient - at least relevant to the cancer. And, the medical oncologist should provide your primary care doc with summaries of your care. I've been very impressed with how good the communication was between my doctors.
