Dear SVP driver?

Think Mr Meldrew before reading:

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart and the top of my wallet for your sterling work this morning. Managing, in a fairly empty car park, to drive into my car and smash the rear light and chip the paint on the bumper on my fairly new car was an astounding feat, only topped by your ability to scarper quick time without the decency to leave a sorry note and a contact number.

Your efforts for the Swiss economy and garage trade are duly noted as the nice chaps at Renault are trying to express order a new unit and it's only going to cost CHF 290 (they think + fitting), and some mechanic will be gainfully employed in changing the unit when it arrives. Further whilst waiting for the nice Renault chap to call to say they have the light unit, I'm stuck so cannot work, meaning I lose money, and of the 2 customers I was meant to see today, 1 will continue to gaze woefully at the huge pile of electric strings I was meant to trunk, and the other won't gaze at much of anything as they will have no lights.

In closing the score for today was Swissy 1 - Expats 3, and as the lowest score wins the game is yours. However, should you suffer an attack of remorse for your motoring incompetence, I'll happily send you my bank details, failing that... I hope your next shit is a porcupine

Re: Dear SVP driver?

Question:
1. How do you know he's SVP?
2. How do you know he's Swiss?
3. How do you know he's not a foreigner?
4. How do you know anything at all except that someone drove into your car and took off?

I understand your anger but not your drama against the Swiss. Sorry about your bad luck. I'd be pissed too.

Contact your insurance company. They'll make sure he pays.

It sounds like you know who did it but for some reason you don't want to confront HER directly

BTW: I see you have tagged your post "bad drivers". How do you know that as well. If she wanted to hit your car on purpose, she may indeed be an excellent driver......just like Rainman....."I am an excellent driver"

The question mark at the top would be a clue... some people are so literal, and were I was parked the chance of it being a Swissy as opposed to some one else would be waay, waay better than average. However it could have been someone else, that why the SVP driver was question...

Some people clearly have been here to long when they cannot recognise a tongue in cheek post when they see one, but hey let's not let that get in the way of failure to read the post and note that whoever (male or female, interesting you put a sex on the driver though Elgg DK) it was didn't have the decency to leave there details but took off. So unless my insurance company have a crystal ball and can find the driver, contacting them would do what exactly?

Calm down, Papa Goose. I'm not the driver nor your enemy. Your post isn't that clear and could be read in many ways.

Sorry about your misfortune. It sucks being a victim.

Re: Dear SVP driver?

Renault paintwork sucks too. Chances are your new part won't match the old paintwork either.

My Espace is about 4 different shades of grey, depending on what panel it is underneath (metal, plastic or bumper). I have a nice dark grey border the size of a french numberplate at the front when i changed to swiss plates last year, which shows how much the paint has faded in 7 years.

Re: Dear SVP driver?

Whether the op's post was tongue in cheek or not, whether the driver was male, female, Swiss, English, German, SVP, SPS, GLP, black, white, green, sky blue pink with yellow dots, the fact is someone ran into his car and drove off.
He lost time, money, business, and quite rightly is mad as hell.
This happened to me some years ago and I was really upset, I couldn't believe someone could do that, how naive was I?
I hope you are okay Papa Goose, unfortunately there are people in this world who don't think about how their actions affect others, and only care about number one.

Doesn't your garage have a replacement car you can borrow while they're doing the repair?

I can understand your anger at the person who caused the damage, but it seems to me the response of the garage is also pretty lame.

The garage are great and offer a fab' service, but just now they have no loan cars available as they are very busy. The light is a non-stock item as well, so they are trying to source one for today but can't guarantee to get one. He say's that they normally have next day delivery on ordered parts so not much need to tie up cash on inventory, and that's understandable... just not to helpful right now. He said it's half an hour or so to swap, and they do it as soon as they have one.... so a nice day to walk the dogs and catch up on the admin.

Perhaps the driver was vehemently anti-French and in a flash of rage decided to take it out on your poor, little Renault

Ask the insurance if you can hire a car yourself and send them the bill. If you're out of work over this it may be worth while even to pay the hire car price yourself. You can get cars and vans for half day hires with some rental agencies.

Good tip UM, the new light and touch up is likely to be less than my deductible from what the garage was saying, so no point in claiming. I go to Rome tomorrow for a week so waiting here for a call today is no hardship and I was hoping the garage would be able to source a light so I'd only really be stuck for the morning... didn't happen though sadly, but hadn't thought of the hire car angle. Todays work will reschedule so I haven't lost out financially, other than the cost of repair, just more a bloody inconvenience and a diary headache for next week really.

Just bloody annoying that in a country which seemingly boast such honourable, christian and law abiding folks... someone can hit another car hard enough to damage it and just do a runner.

Re: Dear SVP driver?

Sorry to hear your problem. Did you say car park? Any chance for CCTV? Not necessarily exactly pointing at your car, but even if only the exit is monitored do you know the time and only need to look for a car with an equally broken light...

Any way: File a report with the cops. This might sound like a waste of time, but hit and run ("Fahrerflucht") is taken quite seriously by them and sometimes gets them into some hunting mode. If the other car broke a light as well can they even identify the make by small pieces on the floor and get all sporty to find out who in the neighbourhood drives that model... worth a try.

Hey Mr T... how's Singapore?

No CCTV as it was in the back of beyond, and no one about. I didn't think to check the broken bits although most seemed to be mine, I was too busy gnashing my teeth and calling down hellfire and brimstone on the culprit. I haven't done the police report thingy either as I wasn't going to claim, so suppose I better drive to Affoltern a.A and report it to be safe... car liberally covered in bubble wrap tof course
