Re: Unprofessional/bad manners

i had similar things a while ago happen to me with UBS and a large MNC American company, but Swiss HR people) in Switzerland. with American MNC, it was also we really like you, wait & hold, no updates yet, will update you as soon as we have news..then received a lie by their recruiter saying they filled the vacancy with another candidate, but that position remained open well after.

with UBS, went through testing and 3 rounds of interviews, even prepared a project, which they most likely used for themselves later on, said will get back to me within next couple of days, then said still no update but will have one within 2 weeks and will contact you as soon as we have an update. those days, turned into lol years.

very unprofessional!

i dont understand how hard is it for some HR people to be honest and say WE ARE NOT INTERESTED.

Most of the Chinese nowadays do not really give a darn on Mao, and actually have no good feeling towards him, or even hate him for the Cultural Revolution he created and so on. So please update your china related knowledge, and move on to year 2012, we are not in cold war period of time. Oh yeah, political propaganda jokes should be updated as well.

You are jumping from one topic to another topic now. I think you just didn't get the point. However, I don't mind you switch the topic now. Mao doesn't have patent or copyright for the revolutions he started and the system he ran, he just simply learnt from the old dead ancestors and made the history repeat. Wait, you do not know those ancestors, and Mao is the only name in history you have been taught by your school, your media, your books, so it will be the only name you could use when you try to make a sarcastic comments towards china. Get over it, Godwin's law, can't you come up with something new? No, you can't, because you do not know any other name but Mao.

fyi, they don't teach anything about "Mao" in gringo schools.

also fyi, "patent" and "copyright" are western fictions, good luck with those in China.

Oh, now I see. You are not a westerner~ Glad to know you finally realize Mao doesn't have the "patent" and "copyright" . Glad to hear from you that Mao is not being taught by gringo schools, and you are a gringo. Have tasted the bitterness of your non-persistent. Oh yeah, Luck? Fei Ye, not fyi ~ Bad teaching in your school? Oh, no, School doesn't teach. That explains.

I am sorry that you have had a bad experience.

Many of us here could tell almost the same story with
another company name inserted. It is bad etiquette,
but it is what it is.
+1, the recruiting process in Switzerland is the worst I have ever experienced and I have worked in 4 different countries.

Re: Unprofessional/bad manners

Transparency is always good

Why not list the companies that behave like this

Of course head hunters are mostly bottom feeders; if you are called by a headhunter & dragged off to see a senior executive then take it with a large spoon of scepticism & do not be so naive as to believe it is a drop dead certain opportunity.
Mostly it is the senior executive paying for the "free" lunch by offering a fake interview.

I read about this in the paper! There was a story about some guy who mooned the head of HR on his second interview! We laughed like drains.

wow! thank god i'm not in this field- really? someone who monitors forums?! it's not the c.i.a
They may or may not have people who monitor forums, but there are companies who search all media for mentions of specific companies / fields / areas - for a fee, they'll give a daily or weekly round-up of all mentions of the designated company, field or area ...

I only know this because one of my wife's former employers used a company of this sort, to give feedback on all mentions of their activity in newspapers, magazines, tv and 'large' online sources.

Re: Unprofessional/bad manners

OP, the way it works, in my experience, even in Switzerland, is as follows.

If the company really wants to hire you, they will and they will do so within 2 weeks of the last interview. 2 weeks tops from the time you last interviewed and offer signed in hand (often it is less than a week and sometimes it happens within 3 days).

If it takes more than 2 weeks and you're chasing them instead of them chasing you, you won't get the job.

In Switzerland, there is one exception. I've had companies I've sent my CV to, didn't hear back in the 2 weeks' time I allotted, so I moved on to another company and within a month or so was hired and happily employed. 6 months later, the company I first sent the CV to (and received no reply from) now wants to interview. Oooops, their loss.

Smart companies move fast to get the best candidates. Best candidates have several offers and interviews floating around so that you're not at the mercy of a bad/slow/not so smart company. Plus, with a couple of offers on hand, you can usually negotiate a better package.

Sorry you got the bad end of the stick, OP, but it is unfortunately common practice these days to treat candidates as expendable. So...as a candidate, the best bet is to make sure YOU hold all the cards....by having several options open in parallel as others have already mentioned.

Good luck!
