Yes - I nearly got caught in this scam as well! I did some due diligence checking on the background of Skrill and also Jerome Franscesco Amoros. All is a fake! I am very grateful that you posted this on the forum.

However, I am still back to square one looking for an apartment in Lausanne for 1 July 2012 (preferably furnished, close to Lausanne Gare and M2 line). Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks in advance for all your advice!

maybe try Renens (although not sure how readily furnished apartments would be available)? It's 5 min by train to Lausanne station, rents are probably a bit cheaper as well.

Or Morges, very frequent connections to Lausanne and a cute little town

Re: Apartment rental scam?

Hello everyone!

I almost fell for the same scam that was described here.

this was here in luzern for a 3 rooms apartment that was almost too good to be true.

My contact said she was in Spain she owned the apartment for 5 years.

when I ask for more contacts other than an e-mail adress she said she couldn't talk over the phone, beacuse she had a throat infection.

She asked for 1000 CHF in advance for the key to see the apartment.

we manage to track down the real owner and told him what was going on. the owner contacted the authorities.

Thank god we figured it out, otherwise I would be 1000 CHF short by now.

regards

Re: Apartment rental scam?

in general, you should not need to pay anyway just to view an apartment.

Re: Apartment rental scam?

And any apartments in Switzerland that are that nice/useful/well located will be represented by some form of management that you can contact in the vicinity.

Plus this is Switzerland, if you aren't asked to fill out forms and submit references for your rental property, it is certainly a scam and you should "run a mile." So to speak.

Good luck to the OP in their search. Rennens and Morges and Saint Prex are all on the line to Lausanne and very nice. Although Saint Prex and Morges aren't "Cities" like Lausanne and Rennens are.
